Elmer Newhouse, 93, died Thursday, March 3, 2005 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls, MN.
Funeral services will be AT 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, March 9, 2005 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Grygla, MN with Reverend Mary Ronning Gilthvedt officiating. Burial will be in the Our Saviors Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church on
Elmer James Newhouse was born on November 9, 1911 in Wilmington Township, Houston County, Minnesota, the son of Theodore E. and Helen (Jelle) Newhouse. He was baptized and confirmed at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Grygla. Elmer moved with his parents from Wilmington, MN, as a child, to a Homestead in Hamre Township, Beltrami County, MN.
Elmer farmed with his brother on the family farm until they both retired. They owned gravel trucks and Elmer worked throughout Minnesota and North Dakota for many years for different companies.
Elmer married June Roen in 1982. They lived at Thorhoult. After retiring they moved to Grygla, where they lived until Elmer entered Hillcrest Nursing Home in Red Lake Falls.
He belonged to the Grygla Lions Club, Hamre Township Board and Our Saviors Lutheran Church, where he served on the church board.
Elmer is survived by his wife, June; step children: Joe (Mary) Roen, Webster, Wisconsin, Tom (Darlyne) Roen, Grygla, MN, Sue (Erwin) Lewis, Alexandria, MN and Annie (Butch) Brawley, Minot, ND; nine grandchildren; one brother, Leonard Newhouse, Erskine, MN; one sister, Myrtle Byklum, Detroit Lakes, MN; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Evelyn Byklum; and brothers-in-law, Gullick Byklum and John Byklum.
