Eloise Smeby of Newfolden, MN, passed away at the Greenbush Manor in Greenbush, MN, on Tuesday, December 8, at the age of 91.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, December 19, 2015 at New Hope Lutheran Church, Newfolden, MN, with Reverend Ollie Urdahl and Reverend Raynard Huglen officiating.  Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery, Newfolden, MN.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 AM until 10:30 AM on Saturday at the Church.

Eloise Harriet Johnson was born on March 16, 1924 in Newfolden, MN, the daughter of Charles and Thea (Svendsen) Johnson.  She was confirmed and baptized in the Lutheran faith.  Eloise attended school in Newfolden, MN, graduating in 1942.  Following high school she attended Interstate Business College in Fargo, ND.  Upon graduating, she moved to Minneapolis for work.

On June 17, 1944 Eloise was united in marriage to Newell Smeby, her high school sweetheart at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Newfolden, MN.  The couple made their home in Newfolden where they worked in the hardware business.  Starting in 1955, her husband's teaching career brought them to several different communities in Minnesota until his retirement from teaching in Rochester, MN, in 1975.  They then made their home in Minneapolis, Nevis, and Walker, MN. In 2010 they moved back near their hometown, settling in Thief River Falls.

After starting a family, Eloise was a dedicated stay-at-home mom, who loved taking care of her family.

Eloise is survived by her son, Mark of Washington, D.C., and brother-in-law, Charles Doppler of Thief River Falls, MN.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Newell; daughter, Jane Smeby; infant sister, Audrey; sister, Vivian Doppler, and her brother, Wallace Johnson.
