Elsa Christine Nakken, 95, died in Pullman, Washington.
Graveside service will be at 11:30 A.M. on Friday, September 15, 2006 at Rindal Lutheran Cemetery, Rosewood, MN, in the Nakken family plot, with Pastor Irv Schmidt officiating.
She was born October 7, 1910, in Chicago, Illinois, to Carl Ludwig Johanson and Kristine Olivia Carlson Johanson. Her parents were Swedish immigrants who met and married in Chicago, Illinois.
After graduating from high school Elsa worked as an insurance analyst for twenty years. She also operated a part-time millinery business in which she created and sold hats during the era in which hats were an essential part of womens fashion.
Elsa married Arnold Nakken in Burlingame, California, in 1950. Arnold was born and grew up in Rosewood, MN. Arnold and Elsa lived in Santa Rosa, CA for nearly forty years. In 1988 they moved to the Linus Oaks retirement center in Roseburg, Oregon, and in 2001 they moved to Bishop Place in Pullman, Washington.
Elsa is survived by a niece Barbara Rix Potratz of Moscow, Idaho, a nephew Norman (Skip) Rix of Clear Lake, California, and a nephew Fredrick Johanson of Winnetka, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her husband Arnold Nakken in 2003 and brother, Carl Johanson, Jr. in 1996. A memorial service has been held in Moscow, Idaho.
