Obituary

Ingrid Elsie Sophia Carlson was born on November 26, 1925 in Warren, MN the daughter of Alfred and Anna (Jonsson) Carlson, immigrants from Sweden. She was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran Faith at Thief Lake Lutheran Church. Elsie attended Shady Nook School in Como Township and graduated from Middle River High School in 1943 as the Valedictorian.

On July 31, 1943 she was united in marriage to Peter O. Aune in Thief River Falls, MN. The couple made their home on the Aune family farm in Moose River Township, near Gatzke. She attended teachers training in Thief River Falls from 1943 " 1944 and began her teaching career at Cloverleaf School. In the summer of 1944 she and Emma helped the war effort cleaning airplanes in Seattle, WA.

She taught various schools in the area including the Silver Ridge School, Tin School, Grass Lake Country School and Greenbush Public Schools, retiring in 1986. Elsie earned her Bachelors Degree from the University of Bemidji, graduating at the same time as her daughter Jan in 1969. She went on to earn her Master Degree in 1975 with a certificate to teach learned disabled and emotionally disturbed children. All of the children Elsie taught became self-reliant successful people.

Elsie was a lifetime member of United Lutheran and Thief Lake Parishs where she served as a Sunday School Teacher, womens group officer, AAL and Lutheran Brotherhood Officer, and WELCA Synod Board Member. She also spent many years as a 4-H Leader, officer at Sons of Norway, Minnesota Education Association Member and 100th Anniversary chairperson. She was a life long learner, enjoyed reading, making quilts, square dancing, traveling, making many trips to Norway, Sweden and Hawaii. She also enjoyed sewing, painting, doing crafts, spending time at their cabin at Lake of the Woods and spending time with her family, especially the grandchildren and great grandchildren. Elsie loved wildflowers especially Lady slippers and was very prod of her Norwegian heritage.

Survivors include her husband Peter O. Aune of Gatzke, MN; 7 children, Alan (Karen) Aune of Ham Lake, MN, Janet (Robert) Anderson of Thief River Falls, Elaine (Wayne) Ruud of Karlstad, MN, Elroy (Debbie) Aune of Gatzke, MN, Anella (Donald) Sufka of Anoka, MN, Arlys (Jerry) Strandberg of Middle River, MN and Elma (Michael) Peterson of Thief River Falls, MN; 24 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; brothers, Roy (Emma) Carlson and Raymond (Grace) Carlson; sister, Doris Paskewitz all of Florida; sisters-in-law Ragna (Myron) Haraldson, Evelyn (Leroy) Davidson, Emma Anderson and her special friend Berger Andeen.

She is preceded in death by her parents; one sister-in-law; 4 brothers-in-law; and great grandson.
