Obituary

Elsie Grace Evelyn Sixta, 95, died on Thursday, March 6, 2008 at Hillcrest Nursing Home in Red Lake Falls, MN.

Funeral service will be at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, March 9, 2008 at Johnson Funeral Service in Red Lake Falls, MN with Evelyn Glass officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Red Lake Falls, MN.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Sunday.

Elsie Grace Evelyn Sixta was born August 23, 1912 in Lynch, Nebraska to her parents, Frank and Eliza (Darnell) Higgins. The family made their home on farms in the area. She was baptized and confirmed in the Methodist Church in Lynch, and attended the Lynch High School and graduated in 1930.

Elsie married Jerry Sixta on June 23, 1933 in Lynch, NB. Together they operated an International Harvester dealership and also sold DeSota cars. Elsie was the office manager and her husbands faithful partner in their business operation.

Elsie and Jerry both had a pilots license and owned their own plane. Elsie thoroughly enjoyed piloting the plane and retained fond memories of this experience.

In the early 1950s Elsie and Jerry traded their business for a farm south of Red Lake Falls. They spent summers on the farm and went back to Nebraska for the winters for several years until they made the transition to become permanent residents of Red Lake County.

In 1972 they sold their farm and moved to Red Lake Falls where they made their home. Elsie worked in the Senior Citizens Craft Shop for many years.

Jerry died in 1980. Elsie continued to live in her home until 1999 when she moved to Hillcrest Nursing Home. In 1999 Elsie was chosen Nursing Home Queen and enjoyed her year long reign. She enjoyed embroidering, reading, crossword puzzles and playing cards.

Elsie was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry, and her brothers: Alvin and Ervin; her sisters: Cora Courtney, Lizzie Peirce, Susie Barnes and Eunice Teadtke. She is survived by nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
