Elvira Anna Sophia Hallin was born to Swedish immigrant parents, Hans and Selma (Erickson) Hallin, on September 19, 1906 in Vega Township of Marshall County, Minnesota. She attended school in Vega Township and later worked at the Warren Hospital and the Veterans Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota. On June 15, 1931, she married Lester Taggart. They lived in the Thief River Falls community and raised their family there. Lester Taggart died in 1977. She sold her home in Thief River Falls in the fall of 1993 and moved to Lakeland, Florida to live with her daughter, Ivy, and her husband, Bob Myhrer.
She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, baking, cooking and caring for her family. Her always-positive attitude and sense of humor were an encouragement to all of us. She always remembered each of us on our birthdays and anniversaries with a greeting card and a note. Her memories are vivid of attending the country school in Vega Township and of driving by horse and buggy or sleigh to attend the Vega Baptist Church as a child. She shared many stories of the Erickson family and their beginnings in the Vega area.
She is survived by her children Ivy (Bob) Myhrer, Lakeland, Florida; Dorothy (Don) Johnson, Minneapolis, Minnesota; Lois (Adrian) Larson, Roseau, Minnesota; Marilyn (Jim) Erickson, Hawick, Minnesota; Duane (Sharon) Greenbush, Minnesota, Carol (Peter) Teigen, Hawley, Minnesota; Jim (Marlene), Newfolden, Minnesota; Fae (Gene) Becklund, Redwood Falls, Minnesota; 26 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson; sisters-in-law Ruth Hallin of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, Edna Taggart of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Hattie Taggart of Thief River Falls, Minnesota; dear cousin, Inez Johnson of Minneapolis, Minnesota; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and many, many friends.
