Obituary

Emma Mehrkens of Thief River Falls, MN, age 98, died peacefully on Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at Oakland Park Communities, Thief River Falls, MN. Funeral Service will be held at 6:00 PM on Tuesday, July 14, 2015 at Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, MN with Rev. John Golv officiating. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls, MN at 9:00 AM on Wednesday, July, 15, 2015. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 6:00 PM on Tuesday evening at Zion Lutheran Church. Emma E. Wiebe was born to Henry and Mary (Heibert) Wiebe on February 1, 1917 in Bray Township, Pennington County, MN. She was baptized at Rosewood, and later confirmed her Christian faith at the Swedish Mission Church in St. Hilaire, MN. Emma worked at Land O'Lakes in the ice cream plant for several years, where she met her future husband. Emma married Maynard H. Mehrkens on June 12, 1942 at St. John Lutheran parsonage. They lived and farmed in Rocksbury Township, rural Thief River Falls, MN their entire married life. Later, Emma went to work at the CNC Unit of Northwest Medical Center for 28 years. Emma was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church, Rocksbury Homemakers, St. John Ladies Aid and loved working with the kids in 4-H. She considered being a grandmother her top priority and spent countless hours with her grandson, Kyle. Presently she was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. In July of 2006, she moved to Valley Home, later after breaking her hip she moved to Oakland Park Communities where she resided until her death. Emma is survived by her son, Ken and his wife, Connie; grandson, Kyle and his wife Misty; and great-grandchildren, Maryssa, Kaylin, Kendra, and Kaleb Mehrkens all of Thief River Falls, MN; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by husband, Maynard on July 28, 1993; parents; brothers, Claus and Raymond; sisters, Anna Hanson and Mathilda Johnston; and an infant sister.
