Obituary

Eric Charles Halvorson, 48, of Thief River Falls, Minnesota, passed away on August 3, 2026 at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, ND with his loving family by his side.

Eric was born on December 9, 1977, in Thief River Falls, Minnesota, to Morris Leroy Halvorson and Carolyn Mary (Wiener) Halvorson. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Thief River Falls. Eric attended Mark Twain Elementary, St. Bernard’s Catholic School, Franklin Middle School, and graduated from Lincoln High School with the Class of 1996.

Eric was appreciated for his kind nature and quiet sense of humor. In his younger years he enjoyed bird and deer hunting and attending all of the Roseau hockey games no matter what town they were in with his dad. He also enjoyed playing cards and was always up for a good game of whist “wisp” with his grandmother. He currently enjoyed spending time watching movies, following his favorite sports teams, especially hockey, football and baseball, playing video games, and taking short car rides. Family and friends knew him as someone who enjoyed life's simple pleasures and who was always happiest spending time with those he cared about.

Eric is survived by his sisters, Karen (Adam Johnson) Wengeler, Nikki (Joseph) Peters, and Anne (Rafael) Fuentes, all of Thief River Falls. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Logan, Mason, Nolan, Olivia, Brynlee, Jenna, Halle, Jett, Skye, Annyssa, and Shayla; his great-niece and great-nephew, Opal and Banks; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Morris and Carolyn Halvorson, grandparents, and his beloved niece, Maizy Fuentes.

A funeral service celebrating Eric's life will be held on Wednesday August 12, 2026 10:00 AM at Johnson Funeral Service, Thief River Falls, MN, with visitation beginning one hour prior to the service.

Eric will be remembered for his gentle spirit, his love of sports and movies, and the special place he held in the hearts of his family. Though he will be deeply missed, his memory will live on in the lives of all who knew and loved him.
