Obituary

Ervin Hermanson, 94, died on Sunday, October 11, 2009 at his home in Thief River Falls, MN.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, October 15, 2009 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN with Rev. Robert Dahlen officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls with military honors provided by the Thief River Falls VFW and American Legion Posts.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM Wednesday with a 7:00 PM prayer service at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN.

Ervin Sigerd Hermanson was born February 28, 1915 on the family farm in Reiner Township, Pennington County, MN the son of Soren and Elga (Sigerud) Hermanson. He was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith. He attended District 48 School in Reiner Township.

He helped on the family farm and also worked out during thrashing season.

Ervin was drafted into service into the United States Army in June of 1941. He served in the Company A, 99th Infantry Batallion Detached, which was made up of a volunteer unit of Norwegian Americans. They were assembled at Ft. Snelling, MN and transferred to Camp Hale, CO for ski training. Ervin was injured in a ski accident and spent the better part of two years in Fitzsimons General Hospital in Denver, CO.

Following his Honorable Discharge, Ervin returned to the Goodridge, MN area where he bought a piece of land and started farming. He eventually sold the land and retired to live on the family farm. Ervin and his brother, Sammy took care of their mother for many years until she had to go into the nursing home in Thief River Falls. In the fall of 1985, Ervin moved into Thief River Falls where he has since resided.

Ervin liked walking, hunting, fishing, visiting and reading. He loved to go dancing and drive big cars.

Ervin was a member of the VFW and the Eagles in Thief River Falls.

Ervin is survived by one sister, Laurie (Rev. Lawrence) Waddy of LaJolla, CA; one brother, Sammy Hermanson of Goodridge, MN; sisters-in-law, Alvina Hermanson of Goodridge, MN, and Carol Hermanson of Bonita, CA; aunt, Hulda Sigerud of Thief River Falls, MN; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers, Lewis, Henry and Lloyd; and sister, Anne (Lloyd) Wells; brother-in-law, John Hancock; and many other relatives.
