Ethel Westelund, 90, of Thief River Falls, formerly of Red Lake Falls, MN died on Wednesday, August 30, 2000 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls, MN.

Memorial services will be held on Friday, September 1, 2000 at 2:30 PM at the Johnson Funeral service Chapel in Red Lake Falls with Reverend Tim Bauer officiating. Burial will be held in the Oak Grove Cemetery near Red Lake Falls, MN.

Ethel Anna Westerlund was born January 12, 1910 at Verdan, SD daughter of Merton Richard and Dora (Rose) Valley. She came to Red Lake Falls as a young child where she was raised and attended school. On June 28, 1928 she was united in marriage to Oscar Westerlund at Oklee, MN. The couple farmed near Plummer, MN except for 8 years when they moved to Waukegan, IL. They returned to Red Lake Falls in November of 1967. Oscar passed away January 3, 1970. Ethel lived in Sunset Court in Red Lake Falls for a time and moved to Arizona in 1994 where she lived until 1997 when she moved to Thief River Falls and lived at Valley Home. Since January of 2000 she has resided at the Oakland Park Nursing Home in Thief River Falls, MN.
Ethel loved to travel, enjoyed quilting, sewing and crocheting. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary of Thief River Falls #2793, the Royal Neighbors and the Heritage Center band.
Ethel is survived by her children Vernon (Rolanne) Westerlund of Lake Havasu City, AZ, Alvin (Marlys) Westerlund of Waukegon, IL, Darlene Larson of Thief River Falls, MN, Raymond (Delores) Westerlund of Middle River, MN and Roger (Lynn) Westerlund of Grand Rapids, MN. 16 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, grandchildren Jamye Westerlund, Stephen Derosier, Bruce Westerlund.
