Eugene Polansky, 75, died Saturday, October 8, 2005 at St. Marys Hospital, Rochester, MN.
Eugene John Polansky was born November 21, 1929 in Thief Lake Township, Marshall County, MN, the son of George Paul and Mary Catherine (Musial) Polansky. He was baptized and confirmed at Jane Church, Thief Lake Township. The family moved to Rollis Township in June, 1938. He started Thief Lake School and attended Rollis School until 8th grade. He graduated from Middle River High School in 1947. Following high school he went out and worked for farmers in North Dakota. Eugene served his country in the United States Army from March 1951-April 1953. He spent 2 Christmas in Korea. Following his honorable discharge, he went to work at Sorkness Construction, as foreman, doing telephone cable splicing. He worked in many states in the upper Midwest and while working near Kent, MN, he met and eventually married Marjorie Mae Neppl, on October 24, 1959 in St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Moorhead, MN.
The couple lived in Montana and South Dakota for a short time. In May of 1960, they moved to the Polansky farm in Rollis Township near Gatzke, MN. The couple retired and moved to Thief River Falls in December, 2004. While on the farm, Eugene milked cows, farmed small grains and began driving school bus for Gatzke School District since 1968 and retired from Grygla School District in 1997.
Eugene was very active at St. Clement Catholic Church, Grygla, where he was a lector, Eucharistic Minister, usher and also served on the parish council as a trustee. He served on the Deanery Council for the Diocese of Crookston. He transferred membership to St. Bernards in Thief River Falls, when they moved to town. He was an NFO member, member of American Legion in Middle River for over 50 years and a member of VFW in Thief River Falls and Gatzke Senior Citizens. He always enjoyed watching his kids and grandkids play sports. He also loved gardening, playing cards, woodworking, fixing and tinkering. He enjoyed driving school bus and knew all the kids by name. Eugene was a very patient man.
Survived by wife, Marge of Thief River Falls, MN; children, Mark (Marlene) Polansky, their children: Jacquel Polansky, Nicole Polansky, Nathan Polansky, Gavin Polansky, and Danielle Polansky, of Rochester, MN, Gary (Laurie) Polansky, their children: Peter Polansky, John Polansky, Timothy Polansky, Rebecca Polansky, and Daniel Polansky of Gatzke, MN, Cindy (Ray) Scott, their children: Preston Scott and Katie Scott of Red Lake Falls, MN, Paul (Anita) Polansky, their child: Elizabeth Polansky, and Anitas daughters Lindsey and Nicole Gonzales of Grand Island, NE, and Cathy (Godfrey) Friedt, their children: Mary Friedt, Andrew Friedt, Hannah Friedt, and Mathew Friedt of Easton, PA; 2 sisters, MaryAnn (Robert) Verbout and Angeline (Donald) Verbout, all of Grygla, MN; brother, Harold Polansky of Thief River Falls, MN; 2 sisters-in-law, Betty Polansky of Menomonie Falls, WI, and Clara Polansky of Pahrump, NV; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by parents, brothers, Lawrence and George, godchild and niece, Patty Polansky and godchild and nephew, Donovan Verbout.
