Obituary

Eunice Stavenes, 79, died Thursday June 16, 2011 at her home in Grygla, MN.

Funeral service will be 10:30 AM on Monday, June 20, 2011 at Grace Lutheran Church, Grygla, MN with Reverend Mary Gilthvedt officiating. Burial will be at Our Saviors Cemetery, rural Grygla, MN.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Sunday, June 19, 2011 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the funeral at the church.

Eunice Haugtvedt was born July 3, 1931 at Greenbush, MN, the daughter of Emil and Hilda (Majer) Haugtvedt. She was baptized and confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Greenbush, MN. She attended school and graduated from Greenbush High School.

On October 29, 1949, Eunice was united in marriage to Basil Stavenes at Greenbush. She helped and worked with Basil on a farm in Spruce Grove Township, where they raised Angus Cattle. She also worked for Land O Lakes turkey plant for 7 years and sold Lakeland Farmers Insurance for 22 years.

Eunice was a member of Our Saviors Church, Grygla, MN and was active in the Ladies Aid, Sunday School and Sewing Circle. She was a member of the Grygla Lioness. Eunice enjoyed cooking, especially homemade buns, caramel rolls & jelly; she would often tell her family and friends you gotta eat! She also enjoyed baking, quilting, gardening and raising flowers. Eunice loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her children, Wayne (Geri) Stavenes of Thief River Falls, Rodney (Sandra) Stavenes of Thief River Falls, Joyce (Brad) Barth of Goodridge, Randy (Kathy) Stavenes of Thief River Falls, and Terry (Becky) Stavenes of Thief River Falls; grandchildren, Stephen (Tammy) Stavenes, Sarah (Eric) Moose, Ryan (Ashley) Horachek, Kristy (Dave) Potter, Jasmyn Barth, Kylee Barth, Jason Stavenes, Loretta (Chad) Ledford, Perry (Megan) Stavenes, Juhl Stavenes, Austin Stavenes and Brooke Stavenes; step-grandchildren, Kelly Carter, Sheena Carter, Bruce Carter, Annea Harmon and Ishara Harmon; 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Harris (Grace) Haugtvedt of Ramsey, MN; and many relatives & friends.

Eunice was preceded in death by her husband, Basil; great grandson, Hunter Stavenes; parents; brothers, Morris (Maria) Haugtvedt, Curtis Haugtvedt and Stanley Haugtvedt; sister and brother-in-law, Velma and Danfred Hamness, nephews, Ronnie Hamness and Daryl Nesteby and sister and brother-in-law, Elaine and Ernest Nesteby.
