Obituary

Eva Mae Bergeron, 86 died Sunday, September 2, 2007 at Riverview Hospital in Crookston, MN.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, September 5, 2007 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Oklee, MN.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service on Tuesday, September 4, 2007 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Oklee. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to services on Wednesday.


She was born January 7, 1921, at Terrebonne, Minnesota, to the late Joseph and Leah (Quesnel) Theroux. Eva Mae attended St. Josephs Catholic School through 8th grade and later graduated from Lafayette High School in Red Lake Falls, MN in 1939. On July 8, 1946 she was united in marriage to Vern Bergeron at St Josephs Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls, MN

She taught in rural schools for several years after attending Teachers Normal School Training and also attended MSU in Moorhead where she renewed her teaching certificate. In 1946 Eva Mae and Vern bought a home in Oklee, MN where she did substitute teaching until she and Vern started their family. She worked with husband Vern at the family owned grocery until his death in 1975. Eva Mae sold the grocery store and began working for Inter County Community Council as a Bookkeeper. She continued there until her retirement in 1985. In 2004 she moved to Nimens Espegaard Apartments in Crookston, MN where she resided until her death.

Eva Mae was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Oklee where she taught release time religion classes; was a member of the Christian Mothers, St. Anns Society and the Theresa Guild. She assisted with the weekly church newsletters and worked at the St. Francis Rectory until she was 70. She was a longtime member and treasurer of the American Legion Auxiliary, a member of the Oklee Social Club, ARC, RSVP, and assisted with Senior Day activities at the Red Lake County Fair in Oklee. She was named Outstanding Senior Citizen of Red Lake County in 1994. She joined RSVP (Retired & Senior Volunteer Program) in 1983 and was active up until June of this year. She was a member of the Red Lake County Committee on Aging. Since moving to Crookston, she continued her volunteer work with RSVP. Eva Mae was very generous with her time and talents and enjoyed and performed countless hours of volunteer and community service work.

Loving family members include; six daughters, two sons, sixteen grandchildren, four great grandchildren, two sisters and one brother. Children: Mary Kay and husband Robert Lindquist, Friendswood TX, Char and husband Rick Brekken, Crookston, Renee Bergeron and husband Adam Granger, St Paul, MN, Jo Anne and husband Bill Church, Tolono Il, Francis (Frank) Bergeron, Bagley, MN, Kevin and wife Diane Bergeron, Warroad, MN, Jane and husband Joe Berryhill, Baytown TX and Carol Bergeron, St Paul, MN. Sisters: Rita Hamm, Melrose, MN, Barbara Fay, Laguna Hills, CA and brother Marvin Theroux and wife BJ of Palm Dessert, CA. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. In addition to her parents, Eva Mae was preceded in death by brothers, Gary, Paul, Clinton and infant brother Marc, her sister Dorothy, an infant sister Jeanne Marie, and grandson Marc Church.

Eva Mae was a loving Mother and wife. She was an excellent cook and seamstress. She also loved travel, reading, quilting, playing bridge and entertaining. Her greatest joy was to be with her family
