Evelina Casavan of Red Lake Falls, MN age 93 died peacefully on Sunday, November 16, 2014 at McIntosh Senior Living in McIntosh, MN. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, November 22, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls, MN with Father Bill DeCrans presiding. Burial will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Red Lake Falls, MN. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service on Friday, November 21, 2014 at Johnson Funeral Service in Red Lake Falls, MN. Visitation will also be held from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM on Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Evelina Zhorela was born on February 9, 1921 in Farley Township, Polk County near Tabor, MN to parents Joseph and Nettie (Kovar) Zhorela. She was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith. She grew up on farms near Tabor and Euclid, MN and attended country school. She as united in marriage to Jesse Casavan Sr. on May 11, 1939 in Crookston, Minnesota. They lived in Crookston a few years and later moved to farm in Louisville and Wylie Townships in Red Lake County. She spent most of her time home working on the farm and raising their family of 8 children. In 1956 they moved off the farm to Red Lake Falls, MN. She was employed there at St. John's Hospital as a dietary aide, in which she specialized in her cooking and baking. She took pride in her work. She loved working with the Sisters of St. Benedict and staff. She spent 28 years working at the hospital until it closed in 1984, she then retired. She was a member of the St. Joseph Ladies Guild and St. Anne's group. In later years she took the opportunity to travel and go on outings when she had the chance with family whether it was near or far. She and her family referred to her as a "roadrunner." She worked hard as a homemaker gardening, cooking, and canning. When Evelina was cooking or doing dishes she would hum "Blue Skirt Waltz" or "Nicolina". She enjoyed spending time socializing with her children and families. She took pride in putting together great meals for family gatherings and you could always expect to see one of her specialty jello salads served. She loved her sweets and ice cream and would be sure to share it with her company. She had a genuine way about her leaving us with her memorable life sayings; such as "a woman's work is never done" and "not everyone can be the winner". In her 93 years of life she always made a conscious effort to maintain good health and a strong heart. Evelina lived in her home in Red Lake Falls until she moved to McIntosh Senior Living in June of 2013. She is survived by seven children, Helen Wavra of Crookston, Gloria (Ray) Delorme of Red Lake Falls, Jesse Jr. (Dianne) Casavan of Red Lake Falls, Carol (Larry) Fontaine of Lake Havasu City, Arizona, Larry Casavan of Red Lake Falls, Ed Casavan of Red Lake Falls, John (Janet) Casavan of Salol, MN; 24 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Jesse Sr.; daughter Marlene; 4 brothers, Albert, Joseph, Willie, Frank Zhorela; 7 sisters, Lily Barvzak, Albina Vasek, Annie Jacobs, Francis Jeuch, Elise Fillian and two infant sisters Emily and Milly; son-in-law Kenneth Wavra; and granddaughter Brenda Wavra.
