Evelyn Austad, 87, died Wednesday, December 20, 2006 at Thief River Care Center, Thief River Falls, MN.
Funeral service will be 11 am, Wednesday, December 27, 2006 at Zion Lutheran Church, Oklee, MN with Reverend Robert Paulson officiating. Burial will be at Zion Cemetery, Oklee, MN.
Visitation will be 4 " 7 PM, Tuesday, December 26, 2006 at Johnson Funeral Service, Oklee, MN with a 7 PM prayer service and for one hour prior to service at the church Wednesday.
Evelyn Mabel Logdahl was born September 4, 1919 on the family farm in Wildwood Township, near Northome, MN, the daughter of Frans and Ethel (Carlson) Logdahl. She was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith. Evelyn attended country school in Wildwood. She attended Northome High School, where she also played basketball. Following school, Evelyn went to Alexandria, MN and worked at a resort.
Evelyn met Grunde Austad while he was working in the CC Camps near Effie, MN. They were married December 21, 1940 in Bemidji, MN. The couple made their home on the family farm north of Oklee in Garnes Township. To this union three children were born, Vincent, Frances and David. While helping Grunde on the farm, she enjoyed raising the children and later went to work for the Farmers Co-op Store and then later for Melbys Store, where she worked for many years. At times, she traveled with Grunde while he worked construction. Grunde died September 18, 1993. The last five years, she resided at CNC in Thief River Falls, MN
She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Oklee, MN. Evelyn enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, gardening, yardwork, and spending time with her family.
Evelyn is survived by 3 children: Vincent (Ruthella) Austad, Nashwauk, MN, Frances (James) Hudson, Englewood, CO and David (Joyce) Austad, Oklee, MN; 6 grandchildren: Jodi (fianc, Terry Olson) Austad, Gwen Austad, Jeremy Hudson, Dean Austad, DeAnn (Shannon) Brekke and Maria (Jeff) Shipley; 4 great grandchildren: Faith Evelyn Olson, Collin Brekke, Nathan Brekke and Kylie Brekke; brothers and sisters: Rudy (Elly) Logdahl, Vivian Ettestad, Gertie (Levi) Larson, Duane (Nancy) Logdahl and Jerry (Kay) Logdahl; and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by husband, Grunde; her parents; brother Sig; infant sister, Inez Emily; and brother-in-law, Kenneth Ettestad.
