Evelyn Grovum, 98, died on Tuesday, Novemer 24, 2009 at Oakland Park Communities in Thief River Falls, MN.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Saturday, November 28, 2009 at St. Petri Lutheran Church in rural Grygla, MN with Pastor Joseph Abrahamson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be 5-8 PM on Friday, at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN with a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to the funeral service at the church on Saturday.

Evelyn E. Wold was born on June 16, 1911 to Joseph and Clara (Erickson) Wold at home near Gatzke, MN. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith at Landstad Church in Gatzke, MN. She attended country school in rural Gatzke.

On October 22, 1932, she was united in marriage to Obert Grovum in Thief River Falls, MN. Evelyn was a life long homemaker and farmers wife. The couple made their home in Grygla, MN until 1968 and then moved to Mavie, MN. In 1998, the couple moved to Thief River Falls. Evelyn has resided at Oakland Park Communities since the fall of 2003.

She was the oldest surviving member of St. Petri Lutheran Church. She made a wide variety of craft items with her specialty being knitted Norwegian mittens. She was a perfectionist with her crafts. Gardening was a passion that she shared with her husband Obert. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

She is survived by one son David (Elaine) Grovum, Thief River Falls, MN, sisters Alice Vigen, Thief River Falls, MN, Helen (Ed Cassidy) Swanson, Inver Grove Heights, brother Kermit Wold, Inver Grove Heights, sister in law Violet Wold, Green Bay, WI, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Obert in 2003, her parents, sisters Margaret Haack and Shirley Wold, brothers Juel Wold and Adrian Wold, sister in law Ellen Wold, brothers in law Irvin Vigen, Francis Haack, and Kenny Swanson, and 3 nephews.
