Obituary

Evelyn Hovet, 96, died Sunday, March 2, 2003 at the CNC Unit of Northwest Medical Center, Thief River Falls, MN.

Funeral service will be 10:00 AM, Thursday, March 6, 2003, Trinity Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls, MN, with Reverend John Wollenzien officiating. Burial will be at Eklund Cemetery, Rural Goodridge, Minnesota.

Visitation will be 3 " 6 PM, Wednesday, March 5, 2003, at Johnson Green Funeral Home, Thief River Falls, MN, with a 5 PM prayer service and for one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.

Evelyn Anderson was born October 23, 1906 at Cottonwood, MN, the daughter of Magnus and Mary (Kompelien) Anderson. She was baptized at St. Lucas Lutheran Church, rural Cottonwood, MN. The family moved to Malthy, South Dakota for 2 years and then moved to Minneota, MN. She attended country school in District 99. In April 1915, the family moved to Erie, Minnesota where she attended school district 59 and also attended the Agricultural College in Crookston, MN. Evelyn was confirmed at Eklund Lutheran Church, rural Goodridge, MN.

On August 14, 1929, Evelyn was united in marriage to George R. Hovet in Thief River Falls, MN. The couple made their home in Star Township until 1943, when they moved to Highlanding Township to farm. In 1967, they sold their farm and moved to Thief River Falls, where she worked as a baker and cook at Northwest Hospital for 27 years.

Evelyn was a member of the Ladies Aid at Eklund Lutheran Church, Goodridge and at Trinity Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls. She liked to cook, bake, knit and quilt. She was known for her doughnuts, lefsa and rolls.

Survived by children: Marian (Tom) Bessette, Clintonville, WI, Arlene (Vern) Vad, South Milwaukee, WI, Myrna (Art) Bessette, Clintonville, WI, Duane (Jo Anne), Shawano, WI, Ronald (Ann), Homosassa, FL, Vernon (Carol), Wautoma, WI, Roger (Vera), Thief River Falls, MN and Curtiss (Sharon), Casper, WY; 34 grandchildren; 40 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Ruby Anderson and Mildred Hovet, both Thief River Falls, MN and Kathryn Hovet, Goodridge, MN.

Preceded in death by husband, parents, son, Gordon and a son in infancy, a grandson and granddaughter, brothers, Jesse, Selmer, Norman, Orvin and Harold and a son-in-law, Leo Langevin.
