Evelyn Joppru, 92, of Thief River Falls, MN died Saturday, May 22, 2010 at Hillcrest Nursing Home in Red Lake Falls, MN with her daughter, Shirley at her side.
Funeral Services will be held at Our Saviours Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, MN at 4:00 PM on Sunday, May 30, 2010 with Rev. Greg Schram officiating. Burial will follow at Satersdal Cemetery, rural Thief River Falls, MN.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 29, 2010 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service.
Evelyn Dahl was born to Ole and Ella (Johanna) Dahl on January 28th, 1918 in New Solem Township, Marshall County, MN. She was baptized and confirmed at Rindal Lutheran church in New Solem Township.
Growing up she attended Busy Bee school in New Solem Township and from there went on to work at Model Laundry in Thief River Falls. She then traveled to Waukegan, IL to live with her sister and pursued work as a house keeper for many years. Then on to California to meet up with her soon to be husband Arthur Joppru, whom was serving in the U.S. Army during World War II.
They came back to Thief River Falls and were married October 1947. They had four children Arlene, Shirley, Sheldon and Louella. They lived outside of Thief River Falls on a farm in Silverton Township for over 50 years.
Evelyn was involved with the WMS at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, crossword puzzles and having coffee with her friends. She was a stay at home mom and was known by her children to make the best bread and potato dumplings.
She is survived by her daughter, Shirley Joppru of White Bear Lake, MN and one granddaughter, Kim Swenson Wood and husband, Wayne of Pittsfield, MA; son, Sheldon Joppru and wife, Kay of Minnetonka, MN; grandsons, JJ Joppru of Arizona and wife, Jenny, Chris of Utah, and Bennie of Minnetonka; Louellas two boys, William Rollins of Pittsburg, PA and Eric Rollins of Little Rock, AR; and Two Great Grand Children, James and Jordyn.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Art; two daughters, Arlene Joppru and Louella Rollins; one grandson, Jason Brandt (son of Shirley Joppru); parents, Ole and Ella; four sisters, Jeretta, Olive, Olga and Olivine; five brothers, Einer, Oscar, Clarence, Steiner, and Engvald.
