Evelyn R. Platt, 89, a Bismarck, ND resident and previously a longtime resident of Devils Lake, ND, passed away in her sleep on December 19, 2012 from Alzheimer's complications at the Missouri Slope Care Center. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2013 at 2:00 PM at Johnson Funeral Service in Red Lake Falls, MN with Deacon John Bruggeman presiding. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Red Lake Falls, MN. Evelyn was born to Clifford and Elizabeth (Schindler) Longtin on the family farm in Red Lake Falls, MN on May 19, 1923. After high school graduation in 1941, Evelyn took teacher training and taught school for five years. She married Duane Platt on January 19, 1948 in Red Lake Falls, MN. From this union, they had four children. In 1954, they moved to Devils Lake, ND where they made their home for many years. In 1968, Evelyn started work as a nurse's aide at Mercy Hospital in Devils Lake. Even though she couldn't stand the sight of blood, she worked there for 15 years. Evelyn moved to Bismarck in 1998 to be closer to her daughter and son-in-law, DiAnn and Kris Roberts and granddaughter, Meg. In her lifetime, Evelyn moved over 30 times, as Duane worked on construction and on power lines for many years. In reading her travel journal it states "Will this be my last move?" after many of the addresses. When Evelyn was placed in Missouri Slope in November, 2012 due to a fall that resulted in a fractured hip, she stated, "This is my last stop". It was not a surprise that Evelyn died on the 19th, as on that date many important things had happened. She was born on May 19, 1923, was engaged on May 19, 1947, married on January 19, 1948 (Duane's birthday) and gave birth to her first child, Michael, on February 19, 1949. The family wishes to thank the staff at both Maple View and Missouri Slope Care Center for the great care that Evelyn had during the last months of her life. She is survived by Michael (Deb) Platt of Knapp, WI, DiAnn (Kris) Roberts of Bismarck, ND, Vernon Platt of Prior Lake, MN, and Robert Platt of Bend, OR as well as six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Special people also include Linda Platt and Nina Platt. She is preceded in death by her parents and siblings: Baby John, Willis, and Lorraine (Longtin) Pinsonneault.
