Evelyn Mae (Kirschman) Schmitz, 85, died on Friday, January 26, 2018 at Essentia Health Hospital in Fosston, MN.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls, MN with Father Bob Schreiner presiding. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Red Lake Falls, MN.
Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Monday, January 29, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls, with a 7:00 P.M. Prayer Service with Deacon John Bruggeman Officiating.
Evelyn Mae Kirschman was born on June 24, 1932 in Red Lake Falls, MN, the daughter of Earl and Hattie (Harper) Kirschman.
Evelyn was united in marriage to Francis Leo Schmitz on November 25, 1950 in Red Lake Falls. Following their marriage the couple moved to a farm west of Red Lake Falls, where they farmed and lived their entire married lives.
Evelyn enjoyed her family and friends; she was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, she had many hobbies and especially loved knitting. She was a member of her Homemakers Club in Red Lake Falls and Knitting Clubs in Crookston, MN and Grand Forks, ND. She enjoyed nature watching and feeding the birds and squirrels and playing with her little dog Izzy. Evelyn farmed with her husband and also worked for many years as a Certified Nurses Assistant at the Hospital in Thief River Falls, MN.
Evelyn is survived by her children: Roger (LaVonne) Schmitz of Newfolden, Linda (David) Bergh of Hallock, MN, Carolyn Schmitz of Fosston, MN, Vern Schmitz of Red Lake Falls, MN, Douglas (Rebekah) Schmitz of Fargo, ND, Julia (Steve) Crump of Richardson, TX, Gene Schmitz of Red Lake Falls, MN; and grandchildren: Ryan, Rebecca, Robin and Roberta Schmitz, Emily and Christopher Moehring, Marsha, Aaron, Stacy, Denise, Owen and Ian Bergh, Lindsey, Renae, Chelsey and Dalen Schmitz, Lauren, Michelle and Stephen Crump; 26 great-grandchildren; sister Karen (George) Marx of Crookston, MN; sisters in law Loretta Knott and Joan Schmitz both of Red Lake Falls, MN, brother in law Lyle Tollefson of Concord, CA and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Francis, parents Earl and Hattie (Harper) Kirschman, brothers Duran of Burnsville, MN and Clinton (infant) of Red Lake Falls, MN, sisters Darlene Dobrovolny and Vivian Tollefson both of California, brothers in law: Donald Schmitz of South Milwaukee, WI, LaVerne Knott and Arthur Schmitz both of Red Lake Falls, MN, Harry Dobrovolny of California and Leonard Blow of Crookston, MN; and sisters in law: Beverly Kirschman and Bernadette Schmitz.
