Evelyn Waling, 74, went home to heaven on Thursday, April 20, 2006 in the CNC unit of the Northwest Medical Center, Thief River Falls, MN.

Funeral service will be 11 AM, Monday, April 24, 2006 at Grace Lutheran Church, Grygla, MN, with Reverend John Barkman officiating. Burial will be at Valle Cemetery, Grygla, MN

Visitation will be 2 " 5 PM, Sunday, April 23, 2006 at Johnson Funeral Service, Thief River Falls, MN, with a 4 PM prayer service and for one hour prior to service at the church, Monday.

Evelyn Rose Marie Uhlig was born April 3, 1932 at home near Dorchester, WI, the daughter of George and Ella Rose (Koerner) Uhlig. She was baptized as an infant and adult. She attended grade schools in Wisconsin, high school in Alden, IL and in later years, earned her GED diploma in Minnesota.

On October 29, 1949, Evelyn was united in marriage to Lester Tom Waling Jr., at the Methodist Parsonage, Hebron, IL. In the early 60s, she was a fire spotter at Linder Fire Tower near Fourtown, MN. In the 1970s, she worked at Vaughn and Bushnell, Hebron, IL. The 1970s and 1980s found her working for Arctic Cat, Thief River Falls, MN. In the late 1980s, she was a cook at a senior retirement center, Woodstock, IL , a cook for REM, Roseau, MN, cook for Grygla Senior Citizens Meals, served as a Foster Grandparent at the Grygla School and volunteer driver for Marshall County Social Services.

Evelyn was an active member and volunteer at the Community Church in Grygla, including release time. She loved to cook, bake, attend church, read her Bible, shop, spend time with her grandchildren and enjoyed trips to see family and friends. She started the Al-Anon group in Grygla. She used her gift of cooking to serve others in church and the community.

Evelyn is survived by husband, Tom, Grygla, MN; 6 children, Patricia (Wayne) Cox, Badger, MN, Daniel (Renee), Wannaska, MN, Ronald (Evie), Grygla, MN, Tina (Les) Mohagen, Morris, MN, Sally (Bill) Helland, Fergus Falls, MN and Marcy (Ted) Mears, Sauk Rapids, MN; 16 grandchildren, Teresa (Jeff) Henning, Timothy Cox, Shawn (Jadi) Waling, Jamie Klasen, Cory (fiance, Kari) Waling, Travis Waling, Dallas Waling, Steven Waling, Thomas "T. J." Waling, Emily Mohagen, Jonathan Mohagen, Sarah Helland, Sonia (Adam) Kranz, Sheila Helland, Joshua Helland and Bethany Mears; great grandchildren, Allysa, Katelyn, Tucker, Tessah, Emma, Samara, Madison and Jeremiah; 4 sisters, Delores Johnson, Marshfield, MO, Myrtle Isenhart, Harvard, IL, Carol Brown, Crossville, TN and Paulette (Dale) Wagner, Smyrna, TN.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Norbert Uhlig, infant grandsons, Caleb and Joshua Mohagen; an infant great grandchild Andrew Waling; grandson in law Billy Klasen.
