Ferdinand Ferd Joseph DeHate, 65, of Plummer, MN passed away on Monday, December 24, 2007 at MeritCare Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls, MN.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 29, 2007, 10:30 AM at St. Josephs Catholic Church in Brooks, Minnesota with Father Antony Fernando presiding. Burial will be at St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Cemetery Plummer, MN at a later date.
Visitation will be held at the church from 5-8 P.M. on Friday, December 28, 2007 with a prayer service at 7 P.M. A visitation will also be held one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
Ferdinand Joseph DeHate was born in Mt. Clemens, Michigan on April 30, 1942 to Floyd and Rosemary (DuBay) DeHate. He moved to Pelican Rapids with his mother at a young age. His mother died July 13, 1961, Ferd continued to live in the area and graduated from Pelican Rapids High School in 1962. After graduation, he moved to Minneapolis for awhile and worked at Anderson Produce. He then moved to Green Bay, WI to work at a meat packing plant.
Ferd was united in marriage to Dianne Schoessow in July of 1964 in Shawano, WI. Dianne died in March of 1969. Ferd and the girls moved to Minneapolis and he went back to work at Anderson Produce.
On September 26, 1970 Ferd was married to Anna Gallant at St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church in Plummer. The couple lived in Plummer where Ferd worked various jobs in the area and the last 15 years was employed by the city of Plummer, retiring a year ago.
He loved hunting, fishing, going camping with his family, and cheering on the Green Bay Packers. The time spent at his hunting shack was always special, where he enjoyed 4 wheeling. Ferd enjoyed a good game of cards and shaking dice with his friends, but the time he spent with his grandchildren was precious to him.
He was a member of the Plummer Lions, fire department, sportsmans club and served as an EMT.
Ferd is survived by his wife Anna DeHate of Plummer, MN; 4 children: Marleen (Steven) Haugen of Thief River Falls, MN, Linda (Marty) Hogenson of Thief River Falls, MN, Diane (Chuck Callender) DeHate of Coon Rapids, MN and Bernie (Jill) DeHate of Plummer, MN; 9 grandchildren: Justin and Jordan Haugen, Nick and Jacki Hogenson, Charles Callender, Blake, Katheryne, Brandie and Paul DeHate; 2 sisters: Jane (Jim) Hurlock of Ely, NV, Barb Hovland of Rothsay, MN; 1 brother Willard Winslow of Iowa; brothers and sisters in law Darlene Winslow of Plummer, MN, Allen Bucholtz of Fargo, ND, Margie (Don) Ranstrom of Aitkin, MN, Nick Jr. (Karen) Gallant of Des Moines, IA, Roger (Lynn) Gallant of Plummer, MN, Donald and Jeannie Schoessow of Portage, WI, Jim (Donna) Schoessow of Portage, WI, John (Chris) Schoessow of Portage WI, Pat (Gary) Melchert of Appleton, WI, Phyllis (Brian) Guyette of Jackson MO, Sharon (Gary) Griesbach, of Illinois, Sandy (Shawn) Nichol of Rosemount, MN, and Betty (Bret) Simpson of Prairie DuSac, WI.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Dianne, sister Susan Bucholtz, brother Bruce Winslow and brother in law Bernard Gallant and Michael Schoessow, father and mother in-law Nick and Wilhelmina Gallant and Leonard and Alvina Schoessow, and all grandparents.
