Fern Curtiss, 87, Middle River, MN, died on Saturday, December 15, 2012 at her home in Middle River, MN. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 22, 2012 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Thief Lake, MN, with Reverend Craig Bowyer officiating. Burial will follow at Our Saviors Lutheran Cemetery, Thief Lake, MN. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Friday, December 21, 2012 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN with a 7 PM prayer service. Visitation will also be held from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM on Saturday at the church. Fern Rachel Curtiss was the daughter of the late Edward and Nellie (Maish) Johnson. She was born on February 4, 1925 in rural Beltrami County near Blackduck, MN. She attended Macy country school in Hornet Township. Her family moved to rural Thief River Falls, MN in 1944. Fern graduated with the Class of 1944 from Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls. On December 22, 1945 Fern was united in marriage to Carroll Curtiss in Thief River Falls, MN. Their journey of farming began in Whiteford Township in Marshall County. They farmed together for more than 50 years. After retiring from farming, Fern always looked forward to the spring transplanting at Honker Flats Green House. She loved plants and her co-workers were the best. She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church and was actively involved with the Women's Group and was a past Sunday School Treasurer. She looked forward to meeting with the Senior Citizen's and the Middle River Community Club. Other past interests were the Homemaker's Group and 4-H Leader. Fern is survived by 3 daughters; Geraldine Hodne (Howard), Pamela Nelson (Roger), both of Middle River and Rhonda Beito (Delray), Strathcona. Special niece, Charlene Kuntz(Tom), Grand Forks, ND; Grandchildren: Paula Peterson, Corey Hodne (Jessica), Kerry Walton, Kelly Nelson, Boe and Bobbie Beito; Great Grand Children: Erika, Brandon and Brooke Peterson, Paige Hodne and Cooper Walton; Sisters; Elsie Vernlund of Hitchcock,Texas, Eva Krogstad of Grand Forks, ND; Brother: Ed Johnson(Gladys), Newfolden, MN. In addition to nieces, nephews and other special relatives and friends. Preceded in death by: Carroll, parents, Ed and Nellie Johnson, sisters; Gertrud Hagen, Florence Osmundson and Rose Westrem, brothers: Art, Clarence and Walter Johnson.
