Florinda Foss, 97, died on Thursday, December 1, 2011 at Lake Ridge Care Center in Buffalo, MN.
Funeral service will be 2:00 PM, Sunday, December 4, 2011 at Bethesda Lutheran Church, Skime, MN with Rev. Paul Koch officiating. Burial will follow at the Bethesda Cemetery in Skime, MN.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service.
Florinda Evelyn Skime Foss was born February 28, 1914 at Skime, MN, the daughter of Thorvald Tom and Alma Regina (Melquist) Skime. She was baptized and confirmed at Bethesda Lutheran Church, Skime. She attended country school in the Skime area, through the 8th grade.
On March 25, 1935, Florinda was united in marriage to Olaf Foss at the Wannaska parsonage of Bethesda Lutheran Church. Florinda did housework for various people for many years, when she and Olaf lived in International Falls, MN.
Florinda was a very fastidious housekeeper.
She enjoyed working in the garden soil each spring, planting garden along with many, many flower bulbs and set plants, which she had wintered over. She also enjoyed deer hunting with the group. Florinda began deer hunting in 1953, when Olaf bought her a deer hunting rifle. Her last year of actually carrying her deer rifle was 2006 at the age of 92, in the hills of the Gully area. Florinda also enjoyed picking wild berries, occasionally staying out all day.
Florinda and Olaf had four children: 1 infant that passed away shortly after birth; three survive her: William (Faye) Foss, Cold Spring, MN, Ell-Kay (June) Foss, Skime, MN and Eileen (Harvey) Chapman, Montgomery, MN; ten grandchildren: Curtis, Christina, Clarissa, Steve, Pamela, Sheryl, Beth, Mike, Lisa and Jeff; nineteen great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Olaf; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thorvald Skime; nine sisters and brothers: Norman Hurby , Myrtle, Alvin, Lloyd, Walter, Arnold, Arthur, Esther and Anna Maybelle.
