Obituary

Floyd Holmstrom, 91, died on Saturday, November 18, 2006 at Edgewood Vista in East Grand Forks, MN.

Funeral Service will be at 10:00 A.M.on Saturday, November 25, 2006 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN with Reverend Greg Schramm officiating.. Burial will be in Rindal Cemetery, New Solum Township, Marshall County, MN.

Visitation will be from 12:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Friday, November 24, 2006 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN and one hour prior to the service on Saturday.

Floyd Holmstrom was born on December 24, 1914 in Baudette, MN, the son of August and Agda (Edeen) Holmstrom. He was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran Faith at Strandquist, MN and also attended Sunnyside School in rural Strandquist. In 1934 he moved near Holt, MN, where he worked with his parents on their home farm. He also lived with his grandma in Strandquist and helped her on the farm

Floyd entered the United States Army on February 20, 1943 at Fort Snelling. He served as an auto mechanic and was in battles and campaigns in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe. He was Honorably Discharged on December 18, 1945 at Camp McCoy, WI. Floyd was decorated with the Good Conduct Medal and Meritorious Unit Award.

Floyd returned to his farm in New Solum Township, Marshall County, MN, where he continued to farm until moving to Edgewood Vista in East Grand Forks on May 5, 2005.

Floyds main interest was working as a mechanic on his farm shop and he loved going to auction sales.
He was a member of V.F.W. and American Legion in Thief River Falls.

Floyd is survived by one sister, Erma (Glenden) Hanson of Thief River Falls, MN; sisters-in-law, Irene Holmstrom of Thief River Falls, MN and Elva Holmstrom of St. Paul, MN; brother-in-law, Curtis Marti of Minnetonka, MN and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; several brothers, Harvey, Vernon, Loyal, Wallace, Arthur, Ray and sister, Dallas.
