Floyd L. Johnson, 94, of Thief River Falls passed away on Thursday, December 23, 2021 at the Thief River Care Center, Thief River Falls, MN.
A Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 PM on May 7, 2022 at Greenwood Cemetery, Thief River Falls, MN with Pastor Justin Dietel officiating. Military honors will be provided by Ecklund-Holmstrom American Legion Post 117, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2793 and Minnesota Army National Guard Honor Guard.
Floyd Lavern Johnson was born on May 4, 1927 in Northcote, MN, the son of Arthur and Bertha (Lambert) Johnson. Shortly after he was born the family moved to Lake Bronson He lived his young life near Lake Bronson. He attended school at a country school in Cannon Township. As a young boy Floyd enjoyed living and helping on the family farm.
In 1950 Floyd enlisted with the United States Army. He served his country during the Korean War and was awarded the Purple Heart. Later he served with the Color Guard of the American Legion.
On January 30, 1955 Floyd was united in marriage to Frances Varey. Together they made their home in Thief River Falls where they raised their family.
Floyd was employed by the school system in Thief River Falls as a custodian, working the longest at the vocational school. While working full-time, Floyd was also self-employed as a tree cutter, spending many summers taking down trees around the area.
Floyd and Frances enjoyed traveling to many places together. During the winters Floyd enjoyed reading Western books and doing jigsaw puzzles.
Floyd was a member of the American Legion and the VFW. He was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church in Thief River Falls.
Floyd's family would like to thank the staff at the Thief River Care Center and Hospice of the Red River Valley for all their care and kindness with Floyd and his family.
Floyd is survived by his children, Richard Johnson of Virginia Beach, VA, Marlene Johnson of Thief River Falls, MN, Diane(Dan) Person of Menomonie, WI, and Curtis Johnson of Ramsey, MN; grandchildren, Kelsey Nowaskey, Benjamin Person, and Garrett Johnson; great-granddaughter, Sadie Nowaskey; sister, Florence Hagen of Hallock, MN; brother, Elden (Eileen) Johnson of Hallock, MN; and nephews, nieces, cousins, relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances; his parents; sister, Frances.
