Frances Opdahl of Thief River Falls, MN age 97, passed away on Thursday, November 20th, 2014 at the Thief River Care Center in Thief River Falls, MN. Funeral Services will be held at 7:00 PM on Saturday, November 22, 2014 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN. Burial will be held at Greenwood Cemetery, Thief River Falls, MN at 10:00 AM on Monday, November 24, 2014. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Frances Margaret Opdahl was born on March 9, 1917 in Dwight, ND to Glen and Tillie (Johnson) Sampson. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith. She attended school in Dwight, ND. In 1942, she was united in marriage to Henry Opdahl. To this union, ten children were born: Duane, Margaret, Mary, Norman, Kathy, Thomas, David, Judy, James and Nancy. Frances worked on CNC at Northwestern Hospital for 27 years until retirement. She enjoyed cooking, baking and tending to flowers. She really enjoyed visiting and was happy when her family came over to see her. In her earlier years, she enjoyed spending time gardening; she always had the freshest vegetables. Frances is survived by her children, Duane (Corinne) Opdahl of St. Hilaire, MN, Margaret (Danny) Larson of Thief River Falls, MN, Mary Thompson of Thief River Falls, MN, Norman (Karen) Opdahl of Middle River, MN, Kathy (special friend Kevin Dahlen) Opdahl of Thief River Falls, MN, Thomas (Kathy) Opdahl of Apple Valley, MN, David Opdahl of Phillips, WI, Judy (special friend Larry Vettleson) Opdahl of Gully, MN, James (Linda) Opdahl of Chisago City, MN and Nancy Opdahl of Apple Valley, MN. She is also survived by 20 grandchildren, Denise, Debra, Dale, Darryl, Darren, Mike, Marc, Shon, David James "DJ", Lance, Derrick, Francesca, Zachary, Jay, Bobbi Jo, Chris, Shane, Jesse, Nicole, and Megan; 25 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren, and Brother Robert Sampson of Mesa, AZ, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers and sisters, Bud Sampson, Sonny Sampson, Billie Sampson, Florence Daniels, Freida Fontaine, Faye Lilke, Fern Townsend, and son-in-law Curtis Thompson.
