Frances Schiefert, 90, died on Friday, September 25, 2009 at Thief River Care Center in Thief River Falls, MN.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 AM, Tuesday, September 29, 2009 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Brooks, MN with Father Chuck Huck presiding. Burial will follow at St. Vincent de Paul Cemetery in Plummer, MN.
Visitation will be held 5-8 PM, Monday, September 28, 2009 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Brooks, MN with a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to the funeral at the church.
Frances Margaret Knott was born June 9, 1919 in Gervais Township, Red Lake County, MN the daughter of Leo and Margaret (Gorrass) Knott. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Marys Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls, MN. Frances attended District 88 through the 8th grade.
She was united in marriage to George Arthur Art Schiefert November 21, 1940 at St. Marys Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls. They made their home on a farm near Dorothy, MN for a few years and in 1946 they purchased the Schiefert farm near Plummer. There were seven children born to this union: Marie, Sidney, Sandy, Victor, Harley, James and Connie.
Frances worked several jobs throughout the years including the potato fields by Grand Forks, ND, the Land-O-Lakes Turkey Plant in Thief River Falls and she retired from Detroiter Mobile Home in Red Lake Falls in 1983.
She enjoyed spending time at any casino, playing cards, dancing and spending time with her family.
Frances was a member of Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Plummer where she was very active in the guild and St. Annes Society. She enjoyed serving as lector and lay minister. She was also a member of Red Hat Society.
Survivors include 7 children, Marie (Robert) Swanson of Thief River Falls, Sidney (Susan) Schiefert of Bloomington, MN, Sandy Osbjornson of Thief River Falls, Victor Schiefert of Plummer, Harley (Alice) Schiefert of West Fargo, ND, James (Sherry) Schiefert of Plummer and Connie (Joe) Suko of Mesa, AZ; 17 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; brother, Frank Knott of Red Lake Falls; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband in 1995; parents; 5 brothers, John, Gust, Harvey, Matt and Henry; and 4 sisters, Dora, Gacilla, Elizabeth and Gertrude.
