Fran Stromberg, 80, died on Tuesday, December 17, 2002 at Innovis Hospital in Fargo, ND.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, December 21, 2002 at the United Methodist Church in Thief River Falls, MN with Reverend Dan Horn officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls.
Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Friday, December 20, 2002 at the Johnson-Green Funeral Home in Thief River Falls, MN and at the church for one hour prior to services on Saturday.
Frances Marie Stenberg was born on June 26, 1922 in Thief River Falls, MN, the daughter of Alfred and Mary (Wyman) Stenberg. She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1940. Following high school she attended and graduated from Northwestern Hospital School of Nursing in Minneapolis with an RN Degree. On March 6, 1949 Fran was united in marriage to Clarence Stromberg. Fran was employed for over 30 years in various positions of Administration and Academic areas of nursing including working at the Falls Clinic, Director of Nurses at Oakland Park Nursing Home, supervisor of Rehabilitation Unit at Northwest Medical Center and Nurse Educator of the Thief River Falls Technical Institute.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church, life member of Northwestern Hospital Services Auxiliary, Winslow Order of Eastern Star (Worthy Matron) and American Legion Auxiliary. Fran was active in the American and Minnesota Nurses Association, where she received several awards and was a life member of Abbot-Northwestern Alumni Association. She served on the Board of Directors of Trustees of Northwest Medical Center and Violence Intervention Project. Fran was active in DFL politics, was a delegate to the National Democratic Convention in 1980 and served as Minnie Township Clerk. She was also a member of the Minnesota Education Association, Agassiz Health Systems Agency, Joint Underwriters Association and was Governors appointee to Malpractice Commission Department of Commerce.
Fran is survived by two sons: John (Barb) Stromberg of Thief River Falls, MN and Dana (Betty) Stromberg of Maple Grove, MN; grandchildren: Eric (Cathy) Stromberg, Rachel (Eric) Thorson, Layne Stromberg and Tyler Stromberg, and one great grandchild, Addie Stromberg.
She was preceded in death by husband, her parents and one brother in infancy, Ralph.
