Francis Ford, 82, died Monday, October 1, 2007 at Hillcrest Nursing Home, Red Lake Falls, MN.
Funeral will be 2 PM, Thursday, October 4, 2007 at Johnson Funeral Service, Red Lake Falls, MN with Father Antony Fernando officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Red Lake Falls, MN
Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home, Thursday.
Francis Frank Ford was born June 16, 1925 in Browns Creek Township, Red Lake Falls, MN to the late Robert & Catherine (Schmidt) Ford. He was baptized and confirmed in the catholic faith at St. Marys Catholic Church of Red Lake Falls.
Francis enlisted into the United States Army in February of 1945 whereas he was honorably discharged and then enlisted in the United States Navy January 27, 1948. While serving in the Navy he received several Good Conduct Awards, the WW II Victory Medal, Korean Service Medal (4 Stars), National Defense Service Medal and United Nations Service Medal and served his country until his retirement from the Navy in 1966. He remained in San Diego, California where he worked as a machinist for San Diego Marine and Allied Shipyards for nearly fifteen years. Following his retirement from the shipyards he lived in Missouri, where he farmed and then made his home in Red Lake Falls in 1994.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 623, Plummer, MN.
Francis is survived by two sons, Lance & Danny, two sisters Marge (Louis) Fournier of Crookston, MN and Eileen (Albin) Stancyk of Angus, MN, many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers John Henry, Patrick & Arnold and sister Jane King.
