Frank Arthur Schmidt, Jr. passed away at home on Monday, June 19, 2017, at the age of 78.

The Memorial Service will be held Saturday, June 24, 2017 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls, MN at 1:30 PM with Father Bob Schreiner Officiating. Burial will be held St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Saturday.

Frank was born on April 7, 1939, to Frank and Angela (Scheifert) Schmidt. He grew up in rural Red Lake County, northeast of Red Lake Falls, where he helped out on the family farm. At 18, Frank enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving on the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Bonhomme Richard for 3 years. During that time, Frank traveled to Japan, India, Hong Kong, Hawaii, and Papua New Guinea.

Upon returning home, Frank helped construct missile silos in North Dakota and buildings in the Twin Cities. Eventually returning to Red Lake Falls, Frank worked for Red Lake County, then Northwest Medical Center. He was formerly married to Phyllis (Cusey) Schmidt for 25 years and raised two children. He also owned Frankie's Refrigeration for many years before retiring. Most recently, he resided with Marlis Burian at the family homestead.

Frank was an energetic and skilled worker who enjoyed fishing, gardening, and spending time with friends.

He is survived by his daughter, Lynette Schmidt; son, Matthew Schmidt; granddaughters Sara Tibbetts and Sydney Olds; and siblings Margaret, Andrew, and Evelyn; in addition to in-laws, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by siblings Raymond, Harold, and Harriet.
