Fred Lowell, 75, died on Sunday, February 12, 2012 at the Villa St. Vincent in Crookston, MN. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at Johnson Funeral Service, Thief River Falls, MN, with Reverend Frank Ehling officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM on Wednesday at the funeral home. Fred Russell Lowell was born on March 28, 1936 in Minneapolis, MN the son of Fred and Kathleen (Babcock) Lowell. Fred attended schools in Minneapolis, MN. In June of 1953, Fred was united in marriage to Antionette Grochowski in Minneapolis, MN. To this union four children were born, Anthony, Penny, Freddie and Candy. Fred worked for Superior Plating in Minneapolis where he was a die caster. Fred worked at Superior Plating until 1967 when he became injured. A couple of years later, Fred and Antionette took over "Al's Place" a bar in Minneapolis owned and operated by Antionette's parents. Fred's passion was racing cars and going to the cabin at Fishtrap Lake near Motley, MN. Fred was baptized as an adult in 2008 at the Ebenezer Lutheran Church near Oklee, MN On February 14, 1976, Fred was united in marriage to Darlene Jean Iverson Bydlon in Sioux Falls, SD. She was the mother of four daughters, Vinette, Lynette, Annette, and Janette. To this union of Fred and Darlene, Shaun and Kathleen were born. They also loved spending time with the family on their lake property at Little Mantrap Lake. In 1977, they purchased Russell's Bar in Thief River Falls and changed the name to Fred's Place. The family made their home in Plummer, MN and in 1993, they moved to Thief River Falls, where they continued to live. Darlene passed away in 2006 and Fred continued to live in Thief River Falls until November 2011 when he moved to the Villa St. Vincent in Crookston to be closer to his daughter Kathleen. The number one priority in Fred's life was his family. His 10 children were his pride and joy. Survivors include 10 children, Anthony (Lisa) Lowell, Thief River Falls, MN, Vinette (John) Menshek, Princeton, MN, Lynette (fiancé, Dave Lohse) Lloyd, Maple Grove, MN, Penny (special friend, Mark) Porter, Isanti, MN, Freddie (Mona) Lowell, Buffalo, MN, Candy (special friend, Dave Rybeck) Erickson, Sturgeon Lake, MN, Annette (Brian) Bruggeman, Thief River Falls, MN, Janette (Tom) Braaten, Plummer, MN, Shaun (Michelle) Lowell, Oklee, MN and Kathleen (Josh) Goodyke, Crookston, MN; 30 grandchildren; 44 great grandchildren; one great great grandson; brothers and sister, Lois Stark, Carol (Butch) Roo, Jeannie LaPlante, Donna (Walter) Ives, and Mike Lowell; and many other relatives and friends. Fred is preceded in death by wife, Darlene; grandsons, Louie and Nickey; brother, Dave; and his parents.
