Obituary

Frieda Kenner of Thief River Falls, Minnesota passed away at home on Monday, January 6, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

Memorial service for Frieda will be held 11:00 AM on Sunday, January 19, 2025 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN with Carl Clark officiating. Burial will be held at Landstad Cemetery near Gatzke, MN later in the spring of 2025. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Frieda Edna Kenner was born on September 2, 1930 in Walsenburg, Colorado.  She was the daughter of August and Emma (Harmes) Hoernicke.  Frieda graduated from High School in Denver and went on to get her cosmetology license.

On January 7, 1950 she married J. Raymond Kenner.  They ranched in southern Colorado.   He used his carpentry skills to remodel a building for her hair salon.

In 1971 Frieda and her husband and family moved to Gatzke Minnesota with all the livestock.  Frieda no longer had a salon, but she did run the Gatzke Sportsman's Café for a short while.  In September of 1979 Raymond unexpectedly passed away and she sold the property and made the decision to move their family and cattle operation to Texas.

She owned various small businesses during her lifetime.  Including her hair salon in Aguilar, Colorado, Artist's Haven in Waco, Texas, a pet store and a pottery shop in Paris Texas.  In 1986 she sold the ranch and the cattle and started a new adventure in Laguna Park, Texas where she owned lakeside rental properties and a paddle boat for excursions.  She then moved on to own an Arts and Crafts Store in Abilene, Texas.

In 1989 she moved back to MN to be close to family in Thief River Falls.  Frieda opened Calico Plus on LaBree Ave doing alterations for the local clothing stores and individuals.  When Frieda retired and closed Calico Plus, she worked part time for 10 years at Valley Home endearing many of the residents there.  Her passion for gardening brought her immense joy during her later years as she lovingly tended to her flower beds and yard.

Freida is survived by her children Raymond Bart (Vincenza) Kenner and Jamie (Carl) Clark; grandchildren Joshua (Laura) Clark, Amanda (Allan) Grzadzielewski, Melissa Clark, Benjamin (Ciara) Clark, Ashley (Lucas) Fornshell, Sam (Kelly) Kenner, Shauni (Ray Landvick) Mulder; step-grandchildren Shannon (Billy) Scott Phillip, Jaime Scott, Kevin Gilizia and Danny (Percilla) Kezar; as well as great-grandchildren Garrett Clark, Reagan Clark, Dillon Clark, Gretta Grzadzielewski, Ian Grzadzielewski, Angel Grzadzielewski, Libby Erickson, Sherman Geer, Jacob Clark, Carlie Clark, Josie Clark, Liam Martell, Nora Martell, Lilly Kenner, Daphne Kenner, Ramsey Kenner and Indi Landvick.
