Galen Wik Thief River Falls, MN, age 62, died on Monday, August 4, 2014 at Villa St. Vincent in Crookston, MN with his loving family at his side. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Friday, August 8, 2014 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, MN with Rev. Mark Helgeland and Rev. Ben Carlsen officiating. Burial will be held at Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM on Friday at Redeemer Lutheran Church. Galen Robert Wik was born on August 24, 1951 in Crookston, MN the son of Leonard and Lorraine (Peterson) Wik. The family lived in Oklee, MN for a short time and in the late 1950's moved to Thief River Falls, MN. Galen attended Washington Elementary School, Franklin Middle School and Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls. Galen worked at Arctic Cat in the 1970's, and he worked on several different farms throughout northwestern Minnesota. During the 1980's, he worked at Halvorson's Fiberglass in Thief River Falls for many years and he was most recently working there. In 1997, Galen was working in Grand Forks when he broke his hip and had to be air lifted to Crookston, MN because of the flood. After his recovery, Galen worked construction in East Grand Forks, MN to repair damages from the flood. Galen loved farming, working with the land, and had a way with animals and the soil. He was meticulous with the way he cared for machinery, had an eye for detail, and was a great artist. Galen was a carpenter and a woodworker and enjoyed spending time in his garage shop which he called his "office". Survivors include his daughter, JoAnn Wik of Detroit Lakes, MN; grandchildren, Tyler, Cierra, Caden and Coralie; mother, Lorraine Wik; brother, Greg Wik; and sister, Julie Byre all of Thief River Falls, MN; niece and nephews, Gregory, Jr., Summer, and Preston; uncle, Stanley Wik; many cousins and numerous friends. He is preceded in death by his father, Leonard; and several aunts and uncles.
