Garfield Syverson, 90, died on Friday, October 19, 2012 at Twin Valley Living Center in Twin Valley, MN. Garfield Warren Syverson was born July 11, 1922 in Joplin, Montana, the son of Gilbert and Ida (Fevig) Syverson. He was baptized into the Lutheran faith His family moved to Fargo, North Dakota where he started school at Franklin School. Later the family moved to Middle River, Minnesota and to rural Thief River Falls, Minnesota in 1933. He graduated from Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls in 1941. On July 27, 1952 he was married to Varadeen Asp in Thief River Falls. Garfield worked for Johnson Plate Glass, Thief River Glass Company and Paint and Glass, all in Thief River Falls. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, playing whist, and woodworking. In his retirement he continued to make furniture for family and relatives. He is survived by a son, Duane Syverson of Jackson, Tennessee and a daughter, Valorie (Michael) Eklund of rural Twin Valley, Minnesota; two granddaughters; a great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Ralph, Rodney, Douglas, and Harry; and sister-in-law, Marjorie.
