Garland Delong, 71, of Goodridge, MN passed away on Monday, December 24, 2018 at Sanford Hospital, Thief River Falls, MN.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM on Monday, December 31, 2018 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN. Burial will be at Goodridge Cemetery, Goodridge, MN.
Garland Keith DeLong was born August 13, 1947 in Harrison County, MO the son of Garland Robert and Emma (Davis) DeLong. He attended country school through the 8 th grade and worked on the family farm.
He started driving truck at age 18 and at one time drove gas truck and did all kinds of truck driving. Garland worked for Sam Walton helping build Walmart stores. They met in Atlanta, GA and Garland said Sam was a real nice and down to earth.
Garland moved to Minnesota in 1998 and started working for Kenny Hamilton and later for Howard Harzke. In 2004 Garland married the most beautiful woman in the entire world Janice Jones and the couple made their home in Goodridge, MN.
Eventually, Garland became self-employed and bought his own truck. He most recently worked for Trent Stanley.
Garland never knew names but never forgot a face. He enjoyed riding 4-wheeler, driving his skid steer, going to auction sales, doing odds and ends and sitting in the garage. There wasn't much he couldn't do. He was lovingly known as M & M.
Survivors include his wife, Janice of Goodridge; children, David (Dawn) DeLong, Gary DeLong, Susie (Randy) Vanderflute, Ronoka (Jack) Schaff; brothers, James (Pam) DeLong and Willard (Mary) DeLong; sister, Mary Briggs; step-children, Gary Jones, Brian (Christy) Jones, Bruce Jones; and many other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Dale DeLong; and sister, Janice Knorr.
