Obituary

Gary Hofius Red Lake Falls, MN, age 73, passed away on Sunday, June 16, 2013 at 10:50 AM at Sanford Medical Center Palliative Care in Fargo, ND due to complications from renal failure. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, July 8, 2013 at the First Presbyterian Church in Red Lake Falls, MN with Pastor Tom Potter officiating. He will be interred in Brooks-Plummer Presbyterian Cemetery in Brooks, MN. Gary Layne Hofius was born to Gordon and Hettie (Lafayette) Hofius on December 25, 1939 at the family farm south of Plummer, MN. He attended school in Plummer, and was baptized and raised in the faith of the Brooks-Plummer Presbyterian Church. As a young man, he assisted his father on the family farm. He then worked 14 years for the SOO Line Railroad in Minnesota and Wisconsin. He married Lori Luedtke in 1969 and moved the Burlington, Wisconsin where he worked for Nestle Candy Company. They later divorced and Gary returned to Plummer where he worked for area farmers until he was employed by Red Lake County. He worked for the County Highway Department and County Landfill for a total of 12 years before retiring due to ill health. Gary resided in Brooks and Red Lake Falls, MN and was a current resident of Hillcrest Nursing Home. Gary loved spending time with his family, hunting at deer camp, bowling in his younger years and creating model cars. He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law Jacqueline and Clayton Moen, Rochester, MN, his brother-in-law Jerry St. Michel, Grand Rapids, MN, numerous nieces and nephews and special cousins, Dalton and Leona Hofius, Red Lake Falls, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents, ex-wife, his sister and brother-in-law Donna and Stub Pahlen, his sister Gail St. Michel and his nephew Michael Pahlen. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff at Hillcrest Nursing Home, Sanford Medical Center Dialysis Unit in Thief River Falls, and the Palliative Care unit at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, ND, for the wonderful care extended to Gary throughout his illness.
