Gary Olson, 57 of Gully, MN passed away suddenly on Monday, October 29, 2018 at Essentia Health in Fosston, MN.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, November 2, 2018 at Johnson Funeral Service in Oklee, MN with Rev. Timothy Lundeen officiating.  Burial will follow at Zion Cemetery in Oklee, MN.  Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Thursday, November 1, 2018 at Johnson Funeral Service in Oklee, MN.  Military honors will be provided by the Oklee American Legion & United States Air Force Honor Guard.

Gary Norman Olson was born on May 21, 1961 in Wallace, ID the son of Jay Norman and Linda Jane (Carlson) Olson. He was baptized into the Lutheran faith.

His father worked for the FAA and with work and promotions the family moved often. In 1962 to Bellingham, WA, 1969 to Santa Barbara, CA & Goleta, CA, 1974 to San Diego, CA, 1976, back to Santa Barbara, CA, and in 1978 to Paradise Valley, AZ where he finished high school. Through his high school years, Gary was a great football player, baseball player and enjoyed lifting weights.

In 1976 Gary developed his passion for motorcycles when he bought a Honda 50 cc. He and his buddy Chris Bailey and cousin Johnny would go on fishing & riding adventures exploring throughout California and the west coast.

When Gary was age 19 he moved with the family to Barstow, CA where he entered into service with the United States Air Force.  He enjoyed his time while serving and was Honorably Discharged.

Following military duty, Gary moved to Oregon in 1981 where he married Jody Perry.  To this union one daughter, Lindsey was born. Many adventures in the Pacific Northwest led to his love for where it all started in Minnesota.

In 1986 Gary met his one true love Teresa Benson in Hopkins, MN. To this union two sons were born, Jesse in 1987 and Nicholas in 1989.  To find a better quality of life and be closer to Teresa's family, they moved to Gully, MN in 1990.

Gary taught his boys how to fish and appreciate the outdoors, the land and the wildlife. He enjoyed watching Westerns, looking for ghosts, working on cars, was a master mechanic and jack of all trades. Gary had an artistic ability to draw wonderful pictures.  He loved being a grandpa to Jay & Lilah. He was best friends with his grandson, Jay and they also shared the same birthday.

Survivors include Teresa Benson of Gully, MN; children, Lindsey (Ryan) Brennan, Jesse Olson and Nicholas (Chelsea) Olson; several grandchildren; mother, Linda Olson; brothers, Dan Olson & Jim (Shannon) Olson; Teresa's mother, Donna Benson; nephews, Erik Olson & Shane Olson; niece, Julia Olson; cousin, Johnny Christopherson; and many other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his father.
