Gayle Langwost, 62, died on Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at Fairview University Hospital in Minneapolis, MN after a long battle with cancer.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, July 31, 2010 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN with Reverend Bob Dahlen officiating. Burial will be in Rosebud Cemetery, Steenerson Township, Beltrami County, MN.
Visitation will be 5-8 P.M. on Friday, July 30, 2010 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN with a 7:00 P.M. Prayer service and also at Johnson Funeral Service for one hour prior to the funeral on Saturday.
Gayle Yvonne Langwost was born on March 26, 1948 in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Albert and Gladys (Johnson) Langwost. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith. Gayle attended grammar school and high school in Chicago, graduating from Kelvyn Park High School in 1966.
After high school, Gayle attended Minnesota State University in Moorhead, MN and graduated with a B.S. Degree in Biology Education. She moved back to Chicago where she taught biology for one year. Gayle went back to school to become a medical technologist and worked at St. Annes Hospital in Chicago. In 1984, she moved to Thief River Falls to help take care of her mother, Gladys. While living in Thief River Falls she worked for the River Road Casino from its onset until 2004.
Gayle enjoyed logic games, vacationing, reading and trivia. She attended tea party meetings when her health allowed her to.
Gayle was an amazing and well loved woman. She had a way of making anyone and everyone feel special. Gayle enjoyed a good game of cards and loved sharing stories. She really loved to cook and grill good meals that were savored with wonderful conversations. Gayle loved to travel, see new things and she could always scout out a casino on the way.
Diagnosed with AML in 2004, Gayle fought an on and off battle over the last 6 years. She taught us preservation, determination, humility and faith. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Gayle is survived by her sister, Joyce Owen and her husband, Harold of Chicago, Illinois; brother, Denis Langwost and his wife, Jeannie of Leaf Rapids, Manitoba, Canada; sister, Arlene Hiebert and her husband, Steve of Zimmerman, Minnesota; nieces and nephews, Brian (Gena) Owen, Jason (Emily) Owen, Scott (Angie) Owen, Curtis Owen, Debbie (Jim) Coates, Dawn (Tom) Montgomery, Patricia (Lou) Nicoli, Erica Langwost, Anna (George) Nameny, Daniel (TJ) Hiebert, Artena Hiebert; 10 great nieces and nephews; uncle, Leonard Johnson and his wife, Bernice of Goodridge, MN; aunt, June Johnson of Goodridge, MN and numerous cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Gladys Langwost.
