Genevieve Knott of Red Lake Falls, MN, 80, passed away on Thursday, April 16, 2026 at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, ND surrounded by her loving family.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 pm Tuesday, April 21st, 2026 at St Joseph’s Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls, MN, with visitation starting one hour before Mass.
Genevieve Louise Hoefer was born January 1, 1946, at St. Francis Hospital, Crookston, MN, the daughter of Leo and Veronica (Schindler) Hoefer. She was baptized at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Gentilly, MN and confirmed at St. Joseph’s Church, Red Lake Falls, MN. She attended country school and Lafayette High School.
On May 15, 1965, Genevieve was united in marriage to Orville Edward Knott.
Three days after graduation, Genevieve started work at Red Lake County State Bank, Red Lake Falls, MN and worked on and off for 18 years while helping farm and having their 4 children. She worked on the farm beside her husband with the dairy, hog and small grain operation. For years, Genevieve and her friend Theresa wall papered and painted. In 2000, she started at Clearwood Group Home ODC, until 2011, when she retired.
Genevieve was a member of St. Joseph’s Church, Red Lake Falls, MN, where she became the first Eucharistic Minister for the parish, a member of Catholic Daughters of America, was a 4-H Leader, served with Northwest Regional Development Full Commission, also served on the Board of Aging and served as Red Lake Falls Township Clerk for over 30 years. She enjoyed her grandkids and their games, jelly making, canning (especially pickles), sewing and has made over 100 blankets, knitting, reading, traveling, gardening, cooking, baking, especially cakes for all occasions, and very much enjoyed time with family and friends.
She is survived by husband, Orville, Red Lake Falls, MN; children: Sheila (Brad) Klose, Jay (Jill) Knott, Randy (Jennifer) Knott and Justin (Kelsey) Knott; grandchildren: Joshua Knott, Casey (Joey) Dondelinger, Cody (Alissa) Knott, Paige (Jeremy) Koepplin, Reiley (Jordan) Lindberg and Sierra (Trevor) Bushman, Elaina, Anna, Lillie, Emersen and Bridger Knott; great grandchildren: Tucker and Tenley Knott, Teagan and Sloane Koepplin, Brooklyn Leines and Easton Dondelinger, (baby Bushman due in August); brothers and sisters: Mary (LeRoy) Pazdernik, sister-in-law Cindy Bannerman, Yvonne Schue, Duane (Terri) Hoefer, Timothy (Peggy) Hoefer and Katherine (Tom) Thedens, and sister-in-law, Barb Hoefer.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Veronica Hoefer, grandparents, John and Mary Schindler and John and Gertrude Hoefer, and brothers: Gerald, Henry and Russell Hoefer. Brother-in-law Tom Schue.
