Genevieve Knott of Red Lake Falls, MN, 80, passed away on Thursday, April 16, 2026 at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, ND surrounded by her loving family singing Amazing Grace..

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 pm Tuesday, April 21st, 2026 at St Joseph’s Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls, MN, with visitation starting one hour before Mass.

Genevieve Louise Hoefer was born January 1, 1946, at St. Francis Hospital, Crookston, MN, the daughter of Leo and Veronica (Schindler) Hoefer. She was baptized at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Red Lake Falls, MN and confirmed at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Red Lake Falls, MN. She attended country school and Lafayette High School.

On May 15, 1965, Genevieve was united in marriage to Orville Edward Knott. They were married for nearly 61 years.

Three days after graduation, Genevieve started work at Red Lake County State Bank, Red Lake Falls, MN and worked on and off for 18 years while working on the farm and raising their 4 children. She worked on the farm beside her husband, doing everything that needed to be done to take care of the animals, crops, and her massive gardens. For years, Genevieve and her friend Theresa wall papered and painted. In 2000, she started at Clearwood Group Home and ODC, until 2011, when she retired.

Genevieve lived a life defined by faith, hard work, and deep devotion to the people around her. No matter how full her days were, she found ways to care for others-through her service, her steady presence, and the life she created. Genevieve was a member of St. Joseph’s Church, Red Lake Falls, MN, where she became a Eucharistic Minister for the parish, a member of Catholic Daughters of America, was a 4-H Leader, served with Northwest Regional Development Full Commission, also served on the Board of Aging and served as Red Lake Falls Township Clerk for over 30 years. She enjoyed her grandkids and great grandkids, attending their many activities, jelly making, canning (especially pickles), sewing and has made over 200 blankets, knitting, crocheting, reading, traveling, gardening, coffee parties, evening card games, cooking, baking, especially cakes for all occasions, and very much enjoyed time with family and friends.

She is survived by husband, Orville, Red Lake Falls, MN; children: Sheila (Brad) Klose, Jay (Jill) Knott, Randy (Jennifer) Knott and Justin (Kelsey) Knott; grandchildren: Joshua Knott, Casey (Joey) Dondelinger, Cody (Alissa) Knott, Paige (Jeremy) Koepplin, Reiley (Jordan) Lindberg and Sierra (Trevor) Bushman, Elaina, Anna, Lillie, Emersen and Bridger Knott; great grandchildren: Tucker and Tenley Knott, Brooklyn Leines and Easton Dondelinger, Emmylou and Madeline Knott, Teagan and Sloane Koepplin, (baby Bushman due in August); brothers and sisters: Mary (LeRoy) Pazdernik, sister-in-law Cindy Bannerman, Yvonne Schue, Duane (Terri) Hoefer, Timothy (Peggy) Hoefer and Katherine (Tom) Thedens, and sister-in-law, Barb Hoefer.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Veronica Hoefer, grandparents, John and Mary Schindler and John and Gertrude Hoefer, and brothers: Gerald, Henry and Russell Hoefer. Brother-in-law Tom Schue.
