Genevieve Homstad, 81, died on Friday, January 03, 2003, at the CNC unit of Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls, MN.
Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. on Monday, January 6, 2003 at Sion Lutheran Church in Lancaster, MN with Reverend Tim Lundeen officiating. Burial will be in Two River Lutheran Cemetery, rural Hallock, MN.
Visitation will be from 2:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. on Sunday, January 5, 2003 at the Johnson-Green Funeral Home in Thief River Falls, MN with a 5:00 P.M. prayer service on Sunday evening and at the church for one hour prior to services on Monday.
Genevieve Irene Keuhn was born on December 31, 1921, in Mercer County, near Mill Grove, MO, the daughter of Charles and Bessie (Ellsworth) Keuhn. She was baptized into the Lutheran Faith. She lived in Modena, MO, Hamilton, ND, Pembina, ND, Hallock, MN, Karlstad, MN and Greenbush, MN prior to age of 20. Genevieve graduated from Lake Bronson High School in 1939, with honors. Following High School she attended Normal Teachers Training in Thief River Falls. She taught in a one-room schoolhouse near Hazel, MN for a short time. She also worked as a Telephone Operator for a few years in Thief River Falls for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company.
On July 30, 1946 Genevieve was united in marriage to Clifford Francis Homstad in South Dakota. The couple lived in Thief River Falls and International Falls, MN for a short time after they were married and settled on the Family Farm in Hazelton Township, Kittson County, Minnesota. The couple farmed for several years.
Genevieve worked at Kittson Memorial Hospital in Hallock, MN as a Nurse Assistant until retirement in 1987. In 1988 the couple moved to Thief River Falls.
She enjoyed sewing, traveling, reading, crocheting, quilting and watching the Minnesota Twins. She was very active in Two River Lutheran Church.
Genevieve is survived by her husband, Clifford of Thief River Falls, MN; six children: Deanna (Lester) Hanson of Torrance, CA, Marcia Sandahl of Thief River Falls, MN, Jennifer (Marshall) Vagle of Thief River Falls, MN, Jeffrey (Annette) Homstad of Hallock, MN, Cynthia (Ken) Cedergren of Thief River Falls, MN and Kimberley (Jerry) Stormo of East Grand Forks, MN; 15 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; 2 step grandchildren; one brother, Kenneth Keuhn of Carlton, MN; three sisters: Carol (Harold) Johnson of Detroit Lakes, MN, Frances (Gilbert) Lange of Richfield, MN and Lila (Norman) Wink of Hancock, MN; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one son, Milo in 1968; her parents; two sisters: Christine Kenyon and Beatrice Hutchinson; and one brother, Keith Keuhn.
