Genevieve Ione Peterson was born July 10, 1929 in Grand Forks, ND, the daughter of Ludvig P. and Myrtle L. (Jahr) Peterson. The family moved to Sanders Township, rural Thief River Falls in 1934.
On June 9, 1947, Genevieve was united in marriage to Burton Lane at Thief River Falls. The couple lived and farmed in the Thief River Falls area until 1951, when they moved to California. In 1953, they returned to Thief River Falls.
Genevieve worked at the Palm Gardens, Vraas 8th St. Grocery, Arctic Enterprises, Heritage Senior Center and Tri-Valley Opportunity Council. She enjoyed making lefse, donuts and quilting.
She held membership at Oak Ridge Lutheran Church, VFW Auxiliary, Cooties and was active in the church Ladies Aid.
Survived by daughters, Vicki Brown and Laurie (Larry) Panek, all Thief River Falls, MN; sons, Gubby , Gary and Stanley (Lynette) Lane, all Thief River Falls, MN; 13 grandchildren, Jeff Lane, Kristen Lane, Michelle Ediger, Jessica Porter, Tinesha Porter, Elizabeth Mehrkens, Jennie Knott, Mike Lane, Sam Lane, Chris Lane, Charlie Panek, Rosie LaMere and Ryan Lane; 15 great grandchildren, Bailey and Parker Lane, Sara Ediger, Santana Porter and Dalton Sehlstrom, Mara, Adrian and Garrett Mehrkens, Elaina and Anna Knott, Logan and Bryar Lane, Alexis Lane, Preston and Madyson Panek; sisters, Olive Weflen, Gresham, OR and Arlene Pearson, Ellsworth, WI; brothers, Byron (Anita) Peterson, Rockford, IL and Lester (Josephine) Peterson, Machesney Park, IL and special friend, Douglas Syverson.
Preceded in death by husband, Burton; daughter, Mary Denise Lane on August 24, 2003 and a daughter, Eileen Frances Lane in infancy; granddaughter, Leanne Marie Lane; parents and grandparents.
