George Gilbert, 91, died on Tuesday, May 1, 2007 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls, MN.
Funeral service will be at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, May 5, 2007 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN with Reverend Phil Schmidt Officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery at Chamberlain, SD Monday, May 7, 2007 at 10:00 AM.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at Johnson Funeral Service on Saturday.
George Gilbert, Sr. was born on August 28, 1915 son of Adolph and Beulah (Ford) Gilbert at Yorktown, Saskatchewan, Canada. George went to school at Gan Valey Mitchell and graduated from Chamberlain High School in 1934. Following graduation he went to Maywood California where he worked for Western States Lac Color Matches.
George enlisted in the United States Navy on May 22, 1942 and served his country honorably until his discharged on October 6, 1945. He was united in marriage to Aggie Herrington on June 26, 1943 while in the Navy at Jacksonville, FL. Following his discharge George went to work for his brother-in-law at Mac McCaffertys Dry Cleaners in Bakersfield, CA.
In 1952 he moved to Chamberlain to Work with his father and brother for Gilberts Apartments and Gilberts Mobile Home Sales.
He was a member of the Fire Department, VFW, American Legion, Masonic Lodge and El Read Shrine. George and Aggie attended the Episcopal Church in Chamberlain, SD.
George is survived by two sons, Roger (Jackie) Gilbert of Topeka, KS and George Gilbert, Jr., Las Vegas, NV; one daughter, Betty (Ken) Johnson of Thief River Falls, MN; five grandchildren, Jennifer (Matt) Cleveland of Denver, CO, Kevin (Nicky) Johnson of Warren, MN, Dusty Gilbert and Travis Gilbert, both of Topeka, KS and Troy Gilbert of Nebraska; seven great grandchildren, Madison Cleveland, Max Cleveland, Jaeden Lovin, Koby Johnson, Kenny Johnson, Dylan Gilbert and Jaynce Gilbert: two sisters Mary McCafferty of Bakersfield, CA and Verna Sturm of Dillon, MT.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Aggie on March 31, 2005; his parents; and one brother Eben.
