George Helget Sr. of Red Lake Falls, MN passed away on Sunday, October 22, 2023 surrounded by his loving family at his home in Red Lake Falls, MN.
Memorial service for George will be held 5 PM on Friday October 27, 2023 at Johnson Funeral Service in Red Lake Falls with Pastor Dave Finsaas officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home in Red Lake Falls. A luncheon in George's honor will be held at the American Legion in Red Lake Falls following the service.
George Thomas Helget Sr. was born August 29, 1953 in Springfield, MN son of the late Roland G. and Lucille (Petsinger) Helget. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Michaels in Morgan, MN. He attended and graduated from Morgan High School in 1972. He joined the Army National Guard right out of high school.
He was united in marriage to Beverly Minnick in 1973. To this union 4 children were born Troy, George Jr., Timothy and Tammy. George was united in marriage to Anita Brule on May 25, 1985 at Milbank, SD. They moved to Red Lake Falls in 2003 where they have since resided. George worked as a farmhand, in construction, Helget Trucking, for Culligan, a truck driver for the US Postal Service, Pawnee Plastics, Homark Homes and Falls Building Center.
George wrestled and played football in high school, enjoyed golfing, bowling, camping, woodworking, listening to country music and good jokes. He grumbled about the Vikings and bragged about his kids, grandkids and great-grandkids.
George is survived by his wife Anita of Red Lake Falls, MN, children Troy (Patty) of Kensington, MN, George Jr. (Cori) of Hermantown, MN, Timothy of Byron, MN and Tammy (Nick) Breshears of Burnsville, MN; grandchildren Doug, Scott, Arianna, Alisha, Tyler, Hailee, Jonah, Brady, Abigail, Devin, Daneesha, Christopher and Melissa; great-grandchildren Mayson, Maya, Sean, Peyton, Lucas, Cassidy and Riley; sister Alice (Alfred Sr.) Drew; along with many nieces and nephews.
George is preceded in death by his parents, and In-laws, siblings Mary Ann, Robert, Lorraine, Elizabeth, Theresa and Frank; many aunts, uncles and cousins.
