Obituary

George Lee George Lee, Oklee, MN, age 83 passed away on Friday, December 28, 2012 at Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine, MN. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service on Tuesday, January 1, 2013 at Johnson Funeral Service in Oklee, MN. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, January 2, 2012 at Zion Lutheran Church in Oklee, MN with Rev. Margaret Jacobus and Rev. Tim Lundeen co-officiating. Burial will follow at Saron Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural Erskine, MN. George Herman Lee was born on the family farm on August 19, 1929 in Badger Township, rural Erskine, MN to Herman and Agnes (Hagen) Lee. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith at Saron Lutheran Church, rural Erskine, MN. He grew up on the farm with 3 siblings and attended Badger Country School, speaking mostly Norwegian until school. He graduated from Agriculture School, Crookston in 1945. He married Dorothy Elaine Bjelland on October 29, 1949 at Saron Lutheran Church. They made their first home at the farm, George farmed with his father. In 1952, George worked for Great Northern Railroad as a depot agent. In 1956 he accepted a position with Security State Bank, Oklee and later became the Executive Vice President and Director until 1995. He continued as Director until 2010. George was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church and community affairs and held many offices: School Board (20 years), Pioneer Board member, Charter Board member of Rydell Refuge and National Bankers Association. George was an avid hunter and fisherman, especially deer hunting and enjoyed teaching and sharing this sport with his 5 children and grandchildren. George and Dorothy enjoyed traveling with trips to Norway, Alaska, & Hawaii. They enjoyed camping with their children to the western states and Canada. They spent 12 winters in Arizona and enjoyed their cabin on Wolf Lake, Bemidji, MN. He enjoyed stamp collecting, gardening, bird watching, and going to the family farm to help his sons. George was a devoted husband, a proud father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Dorothy of Oklee, MN; children, Mick (Cheryl) Lee of Bemidji, MN, Gary (Sandra) Lee of Brooks, MN, Kathy (Bruce) Krogstad of Moorhead, MN, Mark (Sue) Lee of Plummer, MN, and David Lee; grandchildren, Jeremy (Sarah) Lee, Adam (Sarah) Lee, Gretchen (Chris) Johnson, Kayse (Zachary) Maass, Jami, Sheena & Courtney Lee; great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Ethan & Logan Lee, Caden, Trevor & Jacob Lee, Layne & Carter Johnson; sisters-in-law, Helen Lee of Erskine, MN & Arlyse Lee of Mahnomen, MN; brother-in-law, Eugene Lovin of Park Rapids, MN; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; a baby brother; brothers, Arthur & Joseph Lee; and sister, Mildred Lovin.
