George Charles Jerome Pittman was born on February 6, 1936, to William "Bill" Pittman and Ruth (Boyce) Pittman. George began his education at Goodridge Country School, and later Goodridge School. His early years in school reflected the same qualities he carried throughout life—curiosity, dedication, and a quiet determination.
On April 19, 1969, George was united in marriage to Carolyn Margaret Schumacher, beginning a partnership rooted in love, devotion, and shared dreams. Together, they built a life filled with warmth, laughter, and unwavering support for one another. They were blessed with four children: Ruthie, Tom, Mike, and Amy, who were the pride and joy of George's life.
George farmed all of his life, taking over the family farm and dedicating himself to the land and livestock. He raised small grains, cattle, and milk cows with quiet diligence and deep respect for nature. In the fall, he could often be found behind the wheel of a beet truck, contributing to the harvest season with the same steady work ethic that defined him.
Outside of farming, George found joy in the simple pleasures of rural life. He especially enjoyed hunting, attending auction sales, mowing the lawn, driving around to check on crops, and listening to Minnesota Twins games. He was a natural conversationalist who cherished visiting with friends and neighbors, and above all, he treasured time spent with his family.
George was also deeply committed to his community. He was a proud member of the Goodridge Lions for over 50 years and played a key role in organizing the Goodridge Consignment Sale, an event that brought people together and supported local causes. He was also a member of the Swinging Squares Dancing group, where he shared laughter, rhythm, and camaraderie with fellow dancers.
George is survived by his beloved wife, Carolyn; children, Ruthie (Maynard) Forst, Tom (Abbie) Pittman, Mike Pittman, and Amy (Tom) Pittman; grandchildren, Kody (Whitley) Forst, Davis (Vanessa) Forst, Michael Pittman, Quinn Pittman, and Chandler (Shelby) Grindeland; great-grandchildren, Hadley, Kolter Forst, and baby boy Forst due in October; Meika and Odin; sisters, Sharon (Marland) Johnson and Ila Hagen; sister-in-law, Susan (Steve) Sundberg; and several nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; great-granddaughter Payton Forst; brothers, Willis, Donald, Gordon, Raymond, Art, and Victor "Willie"; in-laws, William and Anna Schumacher; brothers-in-law, Duane Englund, Larry Hagen, and Louis Lallier; sisters-in-law, Marilyn Pittman, Marlene Pittman, Dorothy Pittman, Gladys Pittman, Lydia Pittman, and Madonna Lallier; and many cherished friends and family.
George will be remembered for his steadfast heart, his love of the land, and the quiet joy he brought to those around him. His legacy lives on in the fields he tended, the family he loved, and the community he helped shape.
