Jean Maidment, 85, died peacefully at Oakland Park Communities in Thief River Falls, MN on August 17, 2010

A Memorial Service will be held at St. John Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls, MN on Saturday, August 21, 2010 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Aaron Zuch officiating.

Visitation will be held on Friday, August 20, 2010 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN with a prayer service at 7:00 PM. Visitation will also be one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.

Georgine Sylvia Adlyn Maidment was born February 12, 1925 in Cloverleaf Township, Pennington County, MN, the daughter of Ewald and Nettie (Bendickson) Pomerenke. She was baptized March 22, 1925 and confirmed October 13, 1938, both at St. John Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, MN. Jean attended Mavie School and graduated Lincoln High School in 1942. After high school, Jean moved to California where she worked alongside her father at Douglas Aircraft. Jean moved back to Minnesota and was employed at First National Bank in St. Paul, MN for 4 years.

On November 20, 1945, Jean was united in marriage to Kermit Maidment in Thief River Falls, MN. The couple lived in Thief River Falls for 5 years and then lived in Cloverleaf Township, where they farmed for 20 years. When Kermit began working for Bridgemans, a division of Land O Lakes, they moved back into Thief River Falls. After retirement, Kermit and Jean spent 22 years during the winter months together in Mesa, Arizona.

Jean was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church where she enjoyed Bible class and ladies aid. She was active with volunteer work in Thief River Falls and Mesa. She was a proud life member of both the American Legion and VFW Auxiliary.

Jean was a wonderful cook, which her family really enjoyed. Her favorite hobbies included reading, canning, sewing and gardening.

She is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Kermit of Thief River Falls, MN; daughter, Melodee Brown of Thief River Falls, MN; sons, Shawn (Wendy) of Citrus Heights, CA and Terry (Julie) of Oakdale, MN; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; brother Eli Pomerenke of Colorado Springs, CO and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Jean is preceded in death by her parents and her son-in-law, Mike Brown.
