Gerald Moen passed away on Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at Sanford Medical Center in Thief River Falls, MN.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at 10:30 AM at New Hope Lutheran Church in Newfolden, MN with Pastor Ollie Urdahl Officiating. Burial will be held at the Spruce Valley Cemetery, Spruce Valley Township, Marshall County, MN.

Visitation will be held Friday, February 12, 2016 from 5-8 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN and also one hour prior to the service on Saturday.

Gerald Murrel Moen was born on January 24, 1939 son of Morris and Hanna (Nelson) Moen in New Maine Township, MN. He was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran Faith. He attended school in Newfolden and LaPorte, MN. Gerald entered the US Navy on July 9, 1961 and served on the USS Enterprise during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was honorably discharged on June 21, 1963.

Gerald was united in marriage to Elona Anderson on December 14, 1963 at the First Lutheran Church in Middle River, MN. To this union two daughters were born Elizabeth and Darcene.

Throughout Gerald's life, he worked at various jobs including General Tire and Rubber Co. in Minneapolis, American Crystal and Davidson Construction. He also farmed and raised cattle and sheep.

He loved woodworking, carpentry, welding and making toys for his grandkids, creating something out of nothing. His mind was always thinking even in his sleep. He loved his family and grandchildren. He often tried to give a little advice to his two grandchildren like "be good to your parents". A caring man he was.

Gerald is survived by his daughters Beth of Thief River Falls and Darcene (Chris) Burgess of Cavalier, ND; grandchildren Sterling and Rylen Burgess; brothers Dale (Linda) Moen of Orlando, FL, Richard (Pat) Moen of Newfolden, MN and Dennis (Beverly) Moen of Oklee, MN; sisters Gwennie (Kenny) Hjelle, of Newfolden, MN, Kathy (Kameron) Harstad of East Grand Forks, MN, Sharon (Ken) Braaten of Bagley, MN, Diane (Gerald) Nelson of Newfolden, MN; and sister-in-law Betty Moen of Thief River Falls, MN; special friend Harriet Roberts; along with many nieces and nephews.

Gerald is preceded in death by his wife Elona, parents Morris and Hanna Moen and brother Marvin Moen.
