Gerald Schlichtmann, 65, died Monday, April 13, 2009 at Innovis Hospital, Fargo, ND.

Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Saturday, April 18, 2009 at St. Johns Lutheran Church, Red Lake Falls, MN with Reverend Rick Hensel officiating.

Visitation will be 5P.M." 8 P. M., Friday, April 17, 2009 at Johnson Funeral Service, Red Lake Falls, MN with a 7 PM prayer service and for one hour prior to the service at the church, Saturday.


Gerald Henry Schlichtmann was born on May 3, 1943 in Mayville, ND. He was the son of Henry and Orrel(Olson) Schlichtmann. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Hillsboro, ND. He attended Bloomfield #1 Country School, and graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1961. Gerald graduated from North Dakota State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture in 1965.

Gerald was united in marriage to Lorna Struthers on August 10, 1968 at the Presbyterian Church in Red Lake Falls, MN. The couple moved to Grand Forks, ND where Gerald worked for the Farmer's Home Administration. Gerald and Lorna moved to a farm in Terrebonne Township near Red Lake Falls, MN where they farmed for 7 years. After farming, Gerald was a loan officer for the Farmer's Home Administration. Gerald worked in the Grand Forks, McIntosh, Crookston, and Thief River Falls offices.

Gerald was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Red Lake Falls, MN. He was a Sunday School teacher for most of his life. He was the Sunday School Superintendent for many years. Gerald was a board member for Lutheran Island Camp in Henning, MN for the past few years.

Gerald is survived by his wife, Lorna of Red Lake Falls, MN; his children: Lee Gerald (June) Schlichtmann of Hillsboro, ND, BethAnn Schlichtmann of Grand Forks, ND, and Karla Izmirli of Boston, MA; one grandchild, Dietrich Schlichtmann of Hillsboro, ND; two brothers: Marvin (Linda) Schlichtmann of Janesville, IA, and David (Carolyn) Schlichtmann of Jefferson City, MO; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son: John Gerald; and two grandsons: Victor and Juston.
