Gerald Sjulestad was born September 18, 1912 at home to Even and Ingaborg (Dahle) Sjulestad. He was the oldest of six children, Signe, Swen, Eddy, Gertie and Robert. He was baptized in the Lutheran Faith. He lived his entire life in Star Township.

Gerald attended school and church at the Northstar Township School, where he was confirmed by Pastor Hoyam in Norwegian. He started his schooling at the age of seven. He quit school at the age of 15, because his father was ill and he had to take over the farm. As a teenager, he liked to do chores, ride horses, chew snooze, play music with his Dad, blacksmith and carpentry. He learned his carpentry skills while working for his Uncle Ole Dahle.

Gerald married Rose Eidelbes on December 5, 1936. The couple moved to their present farm in 1944, where they grain farmed and raised pigs, sheep, chicken, turkeys, geese and milk cows. Gerald also worked in the mines from 1952-54, but his real love was farming. In 1963, or 64, due to illness, Gerald and Rose quit farming and went into the store business. To this union, six children were born: Edward (Sonny), Yvonne, Howard, Cheryl (Soots), David (Dave) and Joni; 24 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. When Gerald and Rose could get away they enjoyed fishing and vacationing in Arizona.
